14:20 Beverley – Le Beau Garcon – 1pt @ 8/1

Le Beau Garcon could be worth chancing second time up. He didn’t finish his race off at Musselburgh a few weeks ago, which was disappointing given how well he performed over the same C&D on last season’s return, but those racing up top weren’t favoured and the ground was softer than advertised. It’s an effort I’m happy to forgive and he should take a step forward for having had the spin.

His mark has dropped another couple of pounds to 78, 3lbs below his peak effort, and the only time he came to race at this track, he was a ready winner of a C&D novice. It’s the sort of place that should bring out the best in him and there looks to be less chance of the pace burning up compared to his run at Musselburgh. That’s a help and if he has stepped forward as hoped, he’ll show a lot more.

We've Ranked The Best Betting Apps

16:00 Beverley – Challet – 1pt @ 13/2

Challet runs in a 0-80 for the first time in a while and he’s very well-treated on his peak efforts from last season. They included placed efforts in good handicaps at York when rated 85 and he’s running off 76 now, so should be able to find a win coming his way before long. That could well be now on a track that will suit his running style and any ease in the ground won’t be a problem either.

Where he races is key, as his best performances and last three wins have come when leading. There was no attempt to do so on his reappearance run at Redcar, where he wasn’t given a hard time. Like many of Michael Dods’ horses, he will take a step forward for that and we’ll get to see where he’s really at now. A lot will depend on the tactics employed but if he’s up there early, he has a chance.

16:35 Beverley – Freak Out – 1pt @ 12/1

Freak Out is talented on a going day and although there hasn’t been too many of those on his recent starts, he has had a short break to freshen up. That could put him back on the right road as he ran at least once a month since last May and could have gone over the top. He faced some tough tasks anyway, two of his last three starts being up against the progressive Zealot, and this is a lot easier.

He’s well-handicapped now also, 5lbs below last October’s Newcastle success, and he wasn’t beaten far off 10lbs higher on his sole C&D outing last June. He was better than that form suggested having been very slow to stride and I have a feeling the track will suit him well if he can get into a much handier position. Connor Beasley riding again is a plus and if he’s fit enough, 12/1 is quite large.
