14:31 Lingfield – Rhubarb Bikini – 1pt @ 15/2

Rhubarb Bikini is of questionable character and I can’t be certain regarding the level of performance he’ll be willing to put in. However, he looks overpriced on the back of a run that may have been better than the form suggests when less than four-lengths behind Local Bay at Southwell on stable debut for Simon Hodgson.

The 7f trip was never going to be ideal for him (never raced over that short before), he got taken on in the lead and had cheekpieces replacing the visor he usually wears. He definitely dogged it the first chance he got when hanging in behind horses in the straight but plugged on well enough afterwards to hint that a bigger effort may be en route.

His visor returns, he’s up to a mile again and tackles a field full of horses who haven’t tried to lead in recent outings, so barring a change of tactics from him or the others, he could get a solo up top. The handicapper continues to ease his mark as well and it’s not impossible that his recent change of scenery will have a positive effect sooner than later. He’s risky but should have a better chance than the market is currently suggesting.

16:16 Lingfield – Storm Melody – 1pt @ 15/2

Storm Melody is a cracking horse when you consider he has never been rated higher than 77, spent most of his time with marks in the 50’s or 60’s, and has still managed to win ten handicaps. He’s into the veteran stage now so how many more successes will come his way is hard to know but he may have a say in this.

Recent efforts have been quite encouraging, especially his two C&D runs behind Man On A Mission in January, and I don’t think he enjoyed his first visit to Southwell last time where the draw didn’t help his case. With the non-runner, he’ll be coming out of stall six here and could get a nice lead from the one drawn directly on his inner. He hasn’t been down in these 0-55’s very often either and it’ll be disappointing if he’s not in there pitching late on.

16:51 Lingfield – Timestamp – 1pt @ 3/1

Timestamp improved plenty for his reappearance run at Newcastle to go within a neck of scoring around Southwell recently and it mightn’t take much of a step up on that effort to land this. The now 4-year-old is already a three-time All-Weather winner having notched a quickfire hat-trick last August and although defeated last time, it was a new career peak performance.

With this being just his third run since the break, he should be reaching full fitness and there’s scope for improvement over two-miles for the first time. It’s hard to be absolutely certain but 1m 6f isn’t an issue and this is hardly the stiffest test in the world either. 3/1 is far from mind-blowing but he’s in good form, should not have maxed out yet and is likely to get a race run to suit, so I’ll play.
