14:25 Ayr – Stay Smart – 1pt @ 16/1

Stay Smart gets blinkers for the first time and if they could spark him into life, he could take advantage of dropping into a 0-60. He has never been down in this band before and for all that it’s with good reason that he is getting the chance now, he’s 16lbs below when last successful for David O’Meara. Getting a win should be on the cards before long and this looks like the right type of race for him.

Both runs since joining Iain Jardine have offered little hope but he was drawn on the wrong side at Ripon on debut and wouldn’t have liked the ground, whilst second time around he travelled reasonably at Haydock before weakening under an inexperienced claimer. Andrew Mullen is back on board, the headgear could help and he should be fitter. He’s risky but worth a shot at 14/1 or bigger.

We've Ranked The Best Betting Apps

14:55 Ayr – First Impression – 1pt @ 4/1

First Impression has mixed and matched the All-Weather and hurdling in recent starts, doing well when jumping and not so well when running on the flat. However, he’s not anywhere near as effective on the artificial surfaces and I’m inclined to ignore his two tapeta runs this year. Although, it has had a positive effect on his mark as he’s now down to 82, just 2lbs lower than September’s ready C&D success.

This C&D does seem to bring out the best in him, his form over it reading 1-4-1, and any rain that falls would not hinder his chance, for all that I don’t think he’ll have a problem if it stays on the faster side either. His form in 0-80 handicaps is 1-3-1 and he could have a class edge over the majority of these if all goes well in the run. 4/1 is hardly a mind-blowing price but he’s likely to be a big player.

16:05 Ayr – Gannon Glory – 1pt @ 7/2

Gannon Glory hasn’t been at his best the last twice but two of his peak efforts since joining up with Richard Fahey have come over this 6f trip and maybe dropping to the minimum didn’t help. His draw and subsequent position in the race at Pontefract two weeks ago helped to see him operate below-par and I’d be inclined to strike a line through that performance altogether, he’s better than he could show.

The handicapper has eased him a couple of pounds to 70, which is below his second at Newcastle in March and that was a sound effort as he had been keen enough in a truly run race (picked up late by one who sat out the back). Rain shouldn’t be a problem based on his maiden win at Pontefract last April and in a small field, he might enjoy how this pans out. I think he should go close to winning it.
