Opera Singer Has Every Chance In Coronations Stakes  (15:45)

Friday’s Coronation Stakes is a fascinating conundrum, a race in which you can argue the case for many.

Opera Singer is obviously a big player.  Aidan O’Brien’s filly won her last two races last season as a juvenile, a Group 3 and a Group 1, by an aggregate of 11 and a half lengths, and she ran well in the Irish 1000 Guineas on her debut this season to finish third behind Fallen Angel.  She should come on for that run.

Elmalka, Porta Fortuna and Ramatuelle finished first, second and third respectively in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket last time.

Ramatuelle finished behind her two rivals that day, but, perhaps surprisingly on the face of it, she has been put in at a shorter price than both for the Coronation Stakes.

You can see the rationale though.  Ramatuelle raced closer to the fast early pace than either of her two rivals, and she looked a likely winner when she still held the lead deep inside the final furlong.  She is a big player, but she is popular and she is short.

Elmalka only just got up close home in the Guineas, but she did well to win, she didn’t appear to handle the Dip that well, and she showed a really willing attitude to get up and win by a neck.

As well as that, she had run just twice before the Guineas, Ramatuelle had raced seven times and Porta Fortuna had raced eight times.  Roger Varian’s filly could come forward again from the Guineas.

Porta Fortuna could come forward too, she was making her seasonal debut in the Guineas, and she is a really likeable filly.

Donnacha O’Brien’s filly has course form too, she won the Albany Stakes at the Royal meeting last year on her only run to date at Ascot.

Elmalka has never run at Ascot, but she won at Southwell on her racecourse debut last November, and all-weather form is never a liability to take to Ascot, even to the round course.

Ramatuelle has a tricky draw in stall one, whereas Elmalka is in stall seven.  That should mean that there should be plenty of options open to James Doyle, who has three winners on the board already this week, and Roger Varian’s filly could be the value of the race.

Tanya Stevenson's Tip For The Albany Stakes (14:30) - Jayvee

Up until last Saturday June 15 Brian Ellison had had 9 winners from 123 runners in 2024, among them was a 125-1 success for debutant Perfect Port in the Hilary Needler at Beverley.

Then since Saturday he has had 12 runners four of which have won.  His record with two-year-olds this year have been three from eight.

One of those victories has been with Jayvee at Beverley back in April on soft.  She then turned up in the Marygate Fillies Stakes a Listed race at York.

As she did on debut she was slowly away and then was left flat footed and was detached just after a furlong.

With two furlongs to go she dropped out of camera range and initially I thought no more of it until as they crossed the line I noticed her only three lengths behind!

She made up a considerable amount of ground near on ten lengths in over a furlong.  Stepping up in trip will help.

This is a massive step up in class I just hope she doesn’t leave herself too much to do.  She has to be value each-way.

Tanya Stevenson's Tip For The Coronation Stakes (15:45) - Ramatuelle

Ramatuelle had her last race at two in the Group 1 Prix Morny at Deauville when second beaten a whisker by Vandeek, River Tiber was third and the likes of Elite Status and Jasour were seventh and eighth.

The latter pair will be in the Commonwealth Cup earlier on Friday.  On seasonal debut she was second to Romantic Style in the Prix Imprudence, just ahead of Tamfana.

She had already shown her versatility on various types of ground so good was never going to worry her in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, the problem for me was that she was sent on to win the race far too soon at two furlongs out.

She did really well to only be defeated by half a length.

She will reoppose those that finished ahead of her once more and seeing as though this is on the round course she can be held up for longer and get a breather in turning for home.

French challengers have a great record in the Coronation Stakes, since 2000 they have been represented in 16 runnings and won it five times.

Tanya Stevenson's Tip for the 15:45 At Royal Ascot - Ramatuelle

14:30 Ascot: The Panel Selection - Fairy Godmother

It will be a strange week at Ascot if the Aidan O’Brien’s battalion of juveniles return to Ireland without a win and Fairy Godmother can be the one to rectify the situation.

The daughter of Night Of Thunder was beaten on her debut at odd-on but reversed the form with her conqueror in a Group 3 at Naas which was won by the winners of this race in 2022 and 2023.

That form is by far the best of offer and this classy-looking filly will take some beating.

15:05 Ascot: The Panel Selection - Inisherin

The absence of Vandeek and the late withdrawal of Elite Status has robbed the race of two of its potential stars.

That said, Inisherin would have been well-fancied in any case as he goes for Group 1 glory to supplement his Group 2 win in the Sandy Lane stakes at Haydock.

He showed blistering speed in the 2000 Guineas to lead the field to the two pole and it was an easy decision by trainer Kevin Ryan to revert to sprinting for his next run.

This will be only his fifth race and there should be bags of improvement to come for this exciting son of Shamardal and he gets a confident vote.

15:45 Ascot: The Panel Selection - Ramatualle

A fantastic race as the first three home in the 1000 Guineas meet again for this valuable Group 1 prize.

They are joined by the French guineas winner and the highly-rated Opera Singer who ran a huge race on her seasonal comeback to finish third in the Irish Guineas.

She is expected to improve lots and likely to start favourite, but it may be unwise to discount the Newmarket form despite the principals being separated by just half a length.

Ramatuelle showed a telling change of gear that day to go two lengths clear around the two furlong pole and looked all over the winner until collared in the shadow of the post.

Oisin Murphy takes over in the saddle and will look to use her finishing kick as late as possible.
