Coronation Street Odds: What Will Helen Worth Do Next?

It will be the end of an era on Coronation Street this Christmas, as cobbles regulars and the show's faithful viewers prepare to wave goodbye to Helen Worth's iconic character Gail Platt. 

Helen has been a soap stalwart, appearing in Corrie for 50 years, but the actress confirmed earlier this year that her final Street foray will take place before 2024 is out. 

It's since been confirmed that Gail will depart Weatherfield on Christmas Day.

And it could be quieter on the cobbles afterwards, as Gail has gone through six marriages, and had a serial killer husband and half-brother during her time in Weatherfield. 

Quite how she will depart Corrie is being kept under wraps and is the subject of speculation on betting sites, but fans have also been wondering what the Corrie legend will get up to when she leaves the ITV soap.

Loose Helen? 

While Helen might initially want to put her feet up and enjoy a well-earned rest after 50 years in Corrie, history suggests she could end up as a Loose Women panellist next. 

It's a path well-trodden by several former Coronation Street stars, including current panellist Denise Welch. 

Sue Cleaver, who plays Gail's arch-nemesis Eileen Grimshaw in the ITV soap, has also been a guest panellist on the ITV daytime show, as have Corrie legends Julie Hesmondhalgh, Beverley Callard, Sally Dynevor and Sherrie Hewson.

It's 5/6 on betting apps for Helen to go down that route, and it's 3/1 she wastes no time getting back into acting and lands a role in Doctor Who. 

What Will Helen Worth Do Next Odds

Helen is no stranger to the sci-fi series, after appearing in the episode Colony in Space in 1971. 

She portrayed Mary Ashe in the episode, which featured the late Jon Pertwee as the Third Doctor.

Reality TV Might Be Worth A Go

If Helen wants a break from acting but fancies remaining on TV, then she could dip her hand into the reality TV game. 

Many a Corrie star past and present have had a go and Helen is just 6/4 to rock up on Celebrity Bake Off.

The star has some experience, of sorts, in the world of catering after Gail worked at Corrie cafe Alma's, long before it was called Roy's Rolls. 

But after 50 years of playing a character, Helen might be keen to show fans the "real her". One show perfect for this could the first-ever Celebrity Traitors, which will air on the BBC next year.

The regular series has been described as one of the best games of deception on TV, which could suit Helen after portraying a fairly straight-down-the-line, yet resilient, character for all those years. 

Helen is 2/1 to appear on Celebrity Traitors, but it's just 5/2 she steps foot on the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor next year.

Odds of 7/2 are available that she follows in the footsteps of her Corrie co-stars Sue, Helen Flanagan, Alan Halsall and Andy Whyment by jetting off to the I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! jungle.

Gail's Dame Or Damehood? 

However, she might be busy during next year's festive period for different reasons. 

Many a soap star has turned to pantomime after their serial drama careers - and Helen is 8/1 to star in panto. 

But if she's not going to play a Dame, then how about receiving a Damehood instead?

In 2022, Helen was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Birthday Honours for services to drama, and she is 10/1 to go one better next.

As well as her incredible Coronation Street stint, Helen has also taken on extensive charity work.

She is a patron of international wildlife charity The Born Free Foundation, and she also supports ActionAid, whose main aim is to work against poverty and worldwide injustice.

Whatever Helen does next, she will certainly leave a void on the Corrie cobbles when Gail departs Weatherfield.
