Wimbledon 2024 Predictions: The Panel’s Tips For The Men’s And Women’s Singles

Wimbledon Outright Betting Tips

This summer of sport may be about to peak as we prepare for the start of Wimbledon on Monday.

With Wimbledon fortnight coinciding with the final two weeks of the European Championship, there’s very little reason to leave the house in the next two weeks, particularly with the battle for honours at SW19 as open as it has been for many years.

In the men’s, seven-time champion Novak Djokovic’s participation is up in the air after undergoing surgery on a knee injury sustained at the French Open.

The Serb is as big a price as he has been for some time to win the All England Club title at 7/2 on betting sites, with world number one Jannik Sinner topping the market just ahead of defending Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz.

In the women’s singles, injury worries for several key protagonists, including reigning champion Marketa Vondrousova, have muddied the waters.

Only one woman has repeated as Wimbledon champion in the last 13 years, so Vondrousova has the odds stacked against her.

With both singles competitions having a more open feel, The Panel have picked out three each-way contenders to follow at the third grand slam of the year.

Wimbledon Men’s Singles: Hurkacz May Serve Up a Surprise

Tennis betting sites are struggling to split Sinner and Alcaraz at the top of the men’s singles market and it’s easy to see why.

Alcaraz defeated Djokovic in thrilling fashion to win Wimbledon last year and recently became a three-time grand slam winner at the French Open.

Sinner, who made the semi-finals at SW19 last year, won the Australian Open in January and both are strong contenders who could meet in the semi-finals.

Djokovic is the only other competitor at single digits in the betting but given the concerns over his form and health, he’s sidestepped by The Panel.

The Panel do like the look of Hubert Hurkacz at 22/1, the Pole being blessed with the natural attributes to succeed on grass and having been in good form this year.

Hurkacz is best known for beating Roger Federer in his last-ever match at Wimbledon when reaching the semi-finals in 2021, while he looked set for a decent run last year, only to run into Djokovic in the last-16.

More recently, he made the final of Halle, where he was edged out by Sinner in two tie-breaks having shown what an asset his serve can be on grass in Germany, serving 77 aces in that tournament.

He’s ranked number one in the ATP Tour’s serve stats, while according to tennis stats providers Tennis Viz, he is number two over the past 52 weeks in serving “effectiveness”.

We’ve seen how far a big serve can take someone, while Hurkacz has landed in the right side of the draw as far as The Panel are concerned with a good chance to avenge last year's loss to Djokovic in the quarters, should the seven-time champion get that far

Don’t Sleep On Medvedev

Just behind Hurkacz in the market is British hopeful Jack Draper, which is remarkable given he’s never made it beyond the fourth round of a slam before.

Draper might be having a good run but is far too short at 25/1, especially when matched up with someone like the vastly experienced and dangerous Daniil Medvedev at 30/1.

The Russian let the Australian Open title slip through his grasp in January but has bounced back well from that disappointment, although he didn’t have the best tune-up for Wimbledon when going out to Zhang Zhizhen in the round of 16 at Halle.

But he’s a solid grass court player, reaching the semi-finals of Wimbledon last year, and his excellent return game allows him to nullify some of the threat posed by the big servers.

He knows what it takes to win a Grand Slam too, capturing the 2021 US Open, and while being placed in the same quarter of the draw as Sinner is a worry, the Italian faces a very treacherous road to get to that potential quarter-final.

Wimbledon Women’s Singles Prediction: Keys To Success

Aryna Sabalenka sits atop the women’s singles market on betting apps and shortened up to 10/3 following the draw, which was not kind to world number one Iga Swiatek.

Swiatek is having a fantastic year winning her fourth French Open crown recently, but her game just doesn’t seem suited to grass. She's never made it beyond the quarters at Wimbledon, and has been handed a tough draw, starting off against 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin.

But Swiatek is not the only one with doubts over her title credentials. Sabalenka has a worrying shoulder issue, while 2022 champion Elena Rybakina has been troubled by an abdominal injury.

It’s enough to put The Panel off all three for a tournament that’s had some big price winners recently with both Vondrousova and Rybakina starting Wimbledon as 100/1 shots.

Madison Keys isn’t that big at 25/1 but she’s looked in fine fettle this year and has the game needed to succeed at SW19.

The American made the quarter-finals for the second time last year and has won three titles on grass previously so her pedigree is decent.

The draw hasn’t worked out too badly either with few worries before a potential quarter-final meeting with Coco Gauff, although The Panel will be watching Bianca Andreescu, who was on the shortlist at 125/1 before landing in Keys’ quarter.
