NASCAR Picks for the Cook Out 400 Race
Richmond is one of the short tracks on the NASCAR schedule, spanning just three-quarters of a mile. Sunday will mark the 134th NASCAR race in the Cup Series history. This weekend’s race will take place during the day, unlike in the past when NASCAR would race under the lights at Richmond.
Kyle Larson was victorious in the spring race, leading 93 of the 400 laps. The Chevrolets were the most dominant manufacturer, finishing in the top three with Josh Berry and Ross Chastain joining Larson at the top. But the track has historically been the strongest for Toyota, with Kyle Busch winning both races at Richmond in 2018 and Martin Truex Jr. doing the same in 2019.
Drivers who succeed at short, flat tracks have typically also found success at Richmond. It’s also been a place where the top teams typically prevail. Hendrick Motorsports, Joe Gibbs Racing, Team Penske and Stewart-Haas Racing have won 14 of the last 15 races here.
Cook Out 400 NASCAR Predictions & Best Bets Today
- ⭐ Martin Truex Jr. to win (+400) at FanDuel
- ⭐ Hamlin to beat Larson (-110) at BetMGM
- ⭐ Alex Bowman to win (+3100) at FanDuel
No driver has been better at Richmond since 2020 than Martin Truex Jr. Over six races, he holds an average finish of 5.0 and has four top fives and five top 10s, in addition to a win here. There’s also the aforementioned sweep Truex Jr. recorded here in 2019, winning both races.
His form at short, flat tracks is also encouraging. He just won at New Hampshire on July 17, dominating the race by leading 254 of the 301 laps. Truex Jr. won that race by being the betting favorite as low as +300, and we feel he’s set to duplicate that performance this weekend. We like Truex Jr. is our favorite to win (+400) at FanDuel.
Best NASCAR Pick: Truex Jr. as our favorite to win (+400) at FanDuel.
Denny Hamlin vs. Kyle Larson NASCAR Predictions, Odds, Betting Tips
The next bet we’re looking to target is between two of the top contenders: Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson. Hamlin has a better recent average finish at Richmond at 6.8, including a win, while Larson’s average finish here is 8.8. It’s Hamlin who also holds the edge in top fives (4-2) and top 10s (4-3) in their last six races. The momentum is also on Hamlin’s side, who is coming off a win last week at Pocono.
Given the recent trends and the speed Hamlin has shown in recent weeks, we like Hamlin to beat Larson (-110) at BetMGM.
Best NASCAR Pick: Hamlin to beat Larson (-110) at BetMGM
Alex Bowman NASCAR Predictions, Odds, Betting Tips
We mentioned how the stronger teams usually prevail at Richmond, so when looking at potential longshots who could end up in victory lane, we wanted to target a driver on one of the top teams who has also found success here. That led us to Alex Bowman.
Richmond is a strong track for Bowman, who owns an average finish of 9.7 over his last six races. He qualified on the pole this year for the spring race, highlighting the speed in the car, and wound up finishing eighth. In 2021, Bowman won at Richmond after starting 24th.
We expect another strong performance out of Bowman this week, making Alex Bowman our longshot to win (+3100) at FanDuel.
Best NASCAR Pick: Alex Bowman to win (+3100) at FanDuel
