2022 Heisman Trophy Watch: Can Anyone Catch Caleb Williams?
The 2022 Heisman Trophy watch shifts its attention to the conference championship games as November ends. The big questions are, who are we still looking at, and who has seen their hopes dashed?
Every Monday, at Gambling.com, we will look at some prominent names while maybe finding a gem or two for anyone looking for some Heisman betting.
For those interested in futures betting opportunities, below are the latest Heisman odds.
Bryce Young - Alabama Crimson Tide (+20000 on DraftKings Sportsbook)
Bryce Young nailed down a better performance this weekend against Auburn. That said, it may be a case of too little too late. He ran for 48 yards and a touchdown and tossed three touchdowns through the air. The 49-27 win was resounding. However, his number lengthened.
C.J. Stroud - Ohio State Buckeyes (+4000 on DraftKings)
C.J. Stroud threw three touchdowns on Saturday, yet that was still not enough as Ohio State’s offense faltered in the second half. The 45-23 home loss likely ends Stroud’s chances of winning the Heisman barring something unforeseen. The Buckeyes could not get enough clutch plays from Stroud. He needed that Heisman moment, and the Michigan game showed that maybe the signal-caller couldn’t deliver when it mattered.
Caleb Williams - USC Fighting Trojans (-3000 on DraftKings)
Caleb Williams is heading to New York City no matter what happens on Friday against Utah. Williams passed for three scores and added one more rushing on national television against a game Notre Dame defense. USC won easily, 38-27, and Williams was the show's brightest star. Remember, in his only loss, the quarterback nearly led the Trojans to victory. It was a one-point loss on the road. Williams faces a banged-up Cameron Rising this time around in Las Vegas.
Max Duggan - TCU Horned Frogs (+4000 on DraftKings)
The quarterback performed great this week against Iowa State, which should get him to New York City. Max Duggan’s final obstacle is against Kansas State on Saturday. The game is in Arlington, which will almost feel like a home game for TCU. If Duggan can light up the scoreboard and Williams somehow falters in a big way, then the Horned Frogs’ signal-caller might have a chance at the Heisman Trophy.
Blake Corum - Michigan Wolverines (OTB)
Blake Corum, in the end, was a non-factor in the biggest game of the year. Michigan won even with Corum just carrying the ball twice for six yards. Donovan Edwards stole the show with the Wolverines’ running game. He had 216 yards and two touchdowns at Columbus. That cemented Corum’s chances into the ground.
Bo Nix - Oregon (OTB)
Bo Nix only had to beat Oregon State at Cornwallis. That did not happen, as Oregon was edged 38-34. With that, Nix will not play in the Pac-12 Championship game. The quarterback threw for two touchdowns and over 300 yards. However, Oregon blew a massive lead in the fourth quarter as the Ducks managed a mere field goal in crunch time. With that, Nix’s chances of winning the Heisman went up in smoke.
Some mentioned Michael Penix Jr. here at +10000, but Stetson Bennett has a better chance of winning the Heisman.
Jayden Daniels - LSU (OTB)
All Jayden Daniels needs to do is beat Georgia and convincingly. That seems as likely as me hitting the lottery.
Stetson Bennett - Georgia (+10000 on DraftKings)
Again, Stetson Bennett has an eye on December 3rd versus LSU. This is his chance to impress the voters. If Georgia runs more than expected, Bennett’s opportunity may not be much of one. That's all on SEC Championship Saturday.
Drake Maye - North Carolina (OTB)
Drake Maye’s run is done, but could he still make it to New York? Anything is possible. However, the chances are almost zero.
