How to Read NFL DPOY Odds

The NFL DPOY odds above indicate the likelihood of an individual player to be named the Defensive Player of the Year for the season. NFL DPOY odds fluctuate throughout the season based on players' performances, injuries, and other factors.

These odds are presented in the moneyline format.

Negative odds indicate the favorite(s) to win the NFL DPOY award. If a player's odds were -150, for example, you would need to bet $150 to win $100. The lower the number, the more heavily favored that player is to win.

Positive odds indicate the underdogs to win the award. If a player's odds were +600 and you bet $100 on that player, you would win $600 if they won.

Could this be a breakthrough year for the Cowboys' Micah Parsons? In making him the preseason favorite to win DPOY, the oddsmakers think so. The linebacker has made the Pro Bowl in each of his three seasons in the league. He'll face stiff competition from last year's winner Myles Garrett as well as T.J. Watt, who won the award three years ago.

Linebackers have won the award more than any other position, but defensive ends are a close second.

Other notable NFL DPOY trends and facts:

  • Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor is the only player ever to win the award as a rookie.
  • Taylor, J.J. Watt, and Aaron Donald are tied for the most DPOY awards (3).
  • Taylor and defensive tackle Alan Page are the only players to win the DPOY and MVP awards in the same year.
