This week, the USA will get its group campaign at the 2023 Women's World Cup off and running with a match against Vietnam.
It will also be aiming to win soccer’s biggest title for the fifth time as the USA once again comes into the World Cup as the favorite to win the crown.
Ahead of its first game this week, we take a look at the best soccer bets bets and look ahead to the USA’s World Cup campaign.
Best Bet: To Reach the Final (+125) DraftKings Sportsbook
After winning the title in 2019, the USA has now won the past two World Cups after success in Canada in 2015. It also made it to the final in the 2011 edition in Germany and finished third in China in 2007.
It also finished third back in 2003 on home soil, four years after winning the World Cup for the second time in 1999. Simply put, for the past 25 years, the USA has never finished lower than third at a World Cup.
The Stars and Stripes will have a tough test in winning the World Cup this year, as a lot of attention is falling on the shoulders of England after its excellent triumph at the European Championship last summer.
Stars like Rachel Daly, Alessia Russo and Beth England make up a great squad for the Lionesses, and a lot of analysts are predicting they could win the tournament at +240 on the moneyline. With this in mind, we’re playing it a bit safer and predicting that the USA, at the very least, gets to the final of the 2023 Women’s World Cup for our best bet.
Prediction
At odds of -310 to win Group E, the USA should sail through its group campaign. Its only concern will be the Netherlands, although it is still the favorite to beat it. What's more, Portugal and Vietnam should turn out to be easy games for the Stars and Stripes.
You can also find odds of +300 for them to be eliminated in the quarter-finals and +500 to be the runner-up. We do, however, expect another victory for the USA at the World Cup in what will be its fifth time winning the tournament.
There are too many star players with the USA once again for us to not back them. Sophia Smith has been sensational in the NWSL this year with 10 goals in 13 games for Portland Thorns, while Naomi Girma in defense will no doubt be one of the tournament's key defensive players.
Combine this with the experience of other defensive players like Kelley O'Hara and Crystal Dunn and the USA will also boast of arguably the best defense this summer.
Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe are also still with the team and bring to the table a combined record of 184 goals for their country.
The USA has combined experience with young stars on the rise this summer, and we can’t see how anyone, even England and Germany, dethrones it.
