Betting on Middle Tennessee State at the Hawaii Bowl

Middle Tennessee State is on a roll, winning four of its last five games, including the final three. This winning streak pushed the Blue Raiders to a 7-5 record, qualifying the team for a bowl for the sixth time in eight years. The Blue Raiders ended the season tied for fourth in Conference USA.

In September, Middle Tennessee State scored a signature win, defeating then-No. 25 Miami, 45-31, on the Hurricanes’ home field at Hard Rock Stadium north of downtown Miami. The Blue Raiders also won at Colorado State, 34-19.

Coach Rick Stockstill, now in his 17th season on the campus in Murfreesboro, has led the team to 10 bowl appearances.

Against San Diego State, the Blue Raiders will look to its high-powered offense to put up enough points to outlast the Aztecs.

Betting on Hawaii at the Hawaii Bowl

San Diego State won five of its final seven games, including a convincing 43-27 win over San Jose State to qualify for a bowl game this season.

In coach Brady Hoke’s second stint at the helm on the San Diego State campus, the Aztecs are appearing in two straight bowl games, including last season’s 38-24 win over the University of Texas at San Antonio in the Tropical Smoothie Café Frisco Bowl. In 2010, Hoke guided the Aztecs to a 35-14 win over Navy in the Poinsettia Bowl.

This season, the Aztecs got off to a slow start, losing three of the first five games, including a 35-7 loss at Utah and a 35-13 defeat at Boise State — two solid teams that are tough for anybody to beat on the road.

However, the Aztecs scored 32 or more points in three of their last five games and are hoping to display that kind of offensive explosiveness against an equally potent Middle Tennessee State.

Hawaii Bowl Betting Line Tips

Looking for the best bets on the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders or San Diego State Aztecs?

Several sportsbooks are offering sports betting promotions and specials for bowl game betting, so shop around.

Here are some key tips for the big game this year.

Hawaii Bowl Predictions: Moneyline Betting Pick

Despite a win against Miami and a strong finish to the season, Middle Tennessee State hasn’t inspired confidence at the sportsbooks. The Blue Raiders are considered a +225 underdog.

San Diego State is counting on QB Jalen Mayden to spark enough offensive firepower to lead his team to win. Mayden started the Aztecs’ final seven games, compiling an impressive 1,721 yards with 10 touchdown passes.

If it comes down to a kicking game, SDSU can rely in the Mountain West special teams player of the year, Jack Browning, who was 17-of-21 on field goal attempts with six multi-field goal games.

San Diego State is worth a modest moneyline bet in his bowl game.

Hawaii Bowl Predictions: Point Spread Pick

Though San Diego State has been on a roll, Middle Tennessee State has shown, in victories over Miami and Colorado State, that the team can win big games.

This bowl game could be a high-scoring affair, but it might come down to a field goal at the end. Take the Blue Raiders to cover the spread.

Hawaii Bowl Projections: Over/Under Pick

Middle Tennessee State and San Diego State, both with talented quarterbacks and receivers, are capable of putting points on the board. This can be a good game for betting on the total.

A wager on Over 49.5 points makes sense.
