BMW Championship Betting Tips: Four Selections From The Panel

The second of the FedEx Cup Playoffs take place this week when the field has been whittled down from 70 to 50 for the BMW Championship, but only 30 places are up for grabs for the big one – the Tour Championship at East Lake.

The temptation is to pick out some of the bombers to win at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Castle Pines in the Rocky Mountain foothills of Colorado which is the longest course in PGA Tour history, a par-72 measuring 8,130 yards, but don’t fall for its length.

At more than 6,000ft above sea level, the high altitude means the thin air will make the ball travel a lot further at a track which has more than a passing resemblance to Augusta National.

Betting sites have made Scottie Scheffler the 7/2 favourite to win at a course which last featured on the PGA Tour 18 years ago, but Rory McIlroy is available at 14/1 after finishing second from last on nine over at last week’s St Jude Championship.

The Panel enjoyed more success on Sunday, although Hideki Matsuyama nearly blew it on the back nine when holding a five-shot lead only to give us a 25/1 winner with birdies on the last two holes.

Hopefully, The Panel can continue their excellent run of form with this week’s BMW Championship betting tips.

BMW Championship Predictions:

BMW Championship Betting Tips: Clark Can Maintain Hot Streak

Winners of the BMW Championship since 2019 have been inside the world’s top five and generally in red-hot form, but that doesn’t necessarily mean we have to side with players at 20/1 and below.

One player who has certainly picked up since the US Open is Wyndham Clark, who shot four sub-70 rounds at TPC Southwind, including a closing 64, to finish in seventh place.

Clark was strong in nearly all areas in Tennessee, ranking fifth for putting, 11th for approach and off the tee, and ninth in the tee to green stats using the strokes gained measures.

The 2023 US Open champion has finished inside the top 10 in three of his last five tournaments, and he was 14th at the Olympics, so his form is really starting to gather some momentum heading into the climax of the PGA Tour season.

Denver-born Clark also has a massive advantage over the rest of the field in that he estimates he has played Castle Pines between “25-30 times” over the years.

With decent form and familiarity with a course that was lengthened in 2022, Clark looks an interesting prospect at 33/1 with Bet365 as the first of The Panel’s BMW Championship betting tips.

The Panel Tip 1 - Wyndham Clark To Win (Each-Way) - 33/1 With Bet365 (Five Places)

BMW Championship Tips: Bank On Billy

Billy Horschel has fond memories of the BMW Championship as he won this tournament the last time it was played in the Denver area 10 years ago.

Horschel is also enjoying an excellent season, having secured his eighth PGA Tour title at the Corales Puntacana Championship in April and a runners-up spot at the 152nd Open at Royal Troon last month.

Although Horschel believes Xander Schauffele was a worthy winner in South Ayrshire, a little bit of him could not help feeling that a maiden major was within his grasp in the final round.

Following that major outing in Scotland, the 37-year-old Floridian posted seventh at the Wyndham and made it three consecutive top-10s thanks to a closing 67 at the St Jude Championship which has seen him rise into the world’s top 25.

Horschel is 19th in the FedEx Cup standings so he is well positioned for another appearance at East Lake where he triumphed in 2014.

Only Schauffele and Davis Thompson were stronger than Horschel in the SG: tee to green metrics at TPC Southwind and if he can improve his putting then a second BMW Championship – albeit at a different course – will not be far off.

The Panel like his chances and are on board the 40/1 with golf betting sites as their next BMW Championship betting tip.

The Panel Tip 2 - Billy Horschel To Win (Each-Way) - 40/1 With Unibet (Five Places)

BMW Championship Predictions: Burns Looks Hot

Sam Burns stands just above Horschel in the FedEx Cup standings and has been improving his final position in his last four tournaments which read 55-31-12-5, so he has momentum on his side at this crucial stage stage of the season.

Burns has seven top 10s to his name this year, including the US Open, and although he has yet to post a victory in 2024, the feeling remains that he is not far off from adding a sixth PGA Tour title to his name.

The American will have to learn to control his temper, though, after throwing down his driver in frustration after a wayward drive on the ninth at the St Jude Championship led to the head separating from the shaft.

Burns had to play with a club down for the last 18 holes, but still managed to finish in the top five.

Hopefully, he can curb his emotions for the BMW Championship where he has never finished outside the top 20 and was eighth on his tournament debut three years ago.

Burns was the best player around the greens last week and while that may not be a vital skill-set in Colorado, he is playing well enough generally to be a contender and can be backed at 33/1 with betting apps.

The Panel Tip 3 - Sam Burns To Win (Each-Way) - 33/1 With William Hill (Six Places)

BMW Championship Preview: Rai In Great Nick

Aaron Rai recently broke his PGA Tour duck at the Wyndham Championship after several near misses and the Englishman’s red-hot form makes him an obvious candidate to contend this week.

Rai has risen to just outside the world’s top 20 after a brilliant run of form which started with fourth place at the Byron Nelson Championship in May.

The 29-year-old from Wolverhampton has not missed the cut since and has posted four top 10s in his last six outings.

Indeed, Rai has been inside the top 20 in seven of his last eight appearances, so it’s a case of which market to pick this week.

Rai is a tempting 45/1 to win the BMW Championship, but it may be a bit much expecting him to win twice in the space of three weeks.

He can be backed at a shade under evens for a top-20 finish, but The Panel will push out the boat on the back of recent successes and go for a top 10 at 3/1 with BetVictor

And if you have some free bets, The Panel recommend playing them on either Clark or Rai.

The Panel Tip 4 - Aaron Rai Top 10 - 3/1 With BetVictor
