French Open Betting Tips: 4 Fancies From The Panel At Le Golf National

Fresh from an 11/1 success with Tyrrell Hatton at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, The Panel are staying on the DP World Tour for this week’s French Open which hosted the Olympic Golf Tournament at the start of August.

This challenging par-71 course measuring 7,247 yards demands an excellent approach game, but its fast, undulating greens mean scrambling skills will also be important for the chances of success.

Betting sites make BMW PGA Championship winner Billy Horschel the 12/1 favourite, just ahead of 14/1 shot Rasmus Hojgaard, who recently denied Rory McIlroy in thrilling fashion at the Irish Open.

However, The Panel have looked elsewhere for their French Open tips, starting with a player that is coming to the boil and has excellent course form.

French Open Betting Tips: Ole! Take Thorbjorn

Thorbjorn Olesen is a regular visitor to the winner’s circle and although his last two victories came in Asia, the Dane may well enjoy his first European success since his dramatic British Masters triumph in 2022.

Olesen has finished inside the top 20 in four of his last five appearances at Le Golf National, including 14th place at the Olympics 10 weeks ago, and he was runner-up to Thomas Levet on his 2011 debut, so this is a venue he clearly likes.

A missed cut at Wentworth came between 12th place at both the Alfred Dunhill Links and Irish Open to make it seven top 20s for the year which suggests his overall form is solid.

His Strokes Gained stats for approach and tee-to-green are admittedly modest, but he has been exceptional around the greens and with the putter this season, so if he can improve from the fairways, he surely has a chance.

Olesen as an each-way punt at 25/1 with Bet365 is the first of The Panel’s French Open predictions.

The Panel's French Open Prediction 1: Thorbjorn Olesen To Win (Each-Way) - 25/1 With Bet365 (Five Places)

French Open Odds: In-Form Otaegui Can Thrive

Adrian Otaegui has enjoyed his trips to Le Golf National where he has only once finished outside the top 16 in the last five years.

A winner at the China Open in May, Otaegui had a poor run of five missed cuts from the BMW International Open, but has since played the weekend in his four previous events.

That included top-20s at the Irish Open and PGA Championship which he followed with 39th at his native Spanish Open.

His game is also ideally suited for this course as he is the most accurate player off the tee on the DP World Tour, a perfect skill to avoid the renowned penal rough and water hazards.

The Spaniard’s excellent approach play and tee-to-green numbers will come in handy, too, while his scrambling is good enough if he fails to hit the dancefloor.

The Panel are expecting a good week from Otaegui, who can be backed at 55/1 with Bet365, but are taking the lower price for the extra places with Ladbrokes.

French Open Golf Preview: Garcia-Heredia Can Deliver Again

Yannik Paul was also originally in the staking plan, but he must be spent playing in his ninth consecutive tournament, so The Panel are going back to a player that produced the goods at the Spanish Open last month.

Alfredo Garcia-Heredia gave The Panel a 9/2 winner for a top-20 finish when he posted 10th in Madrid and that price is available for the same market this week.

Four weeks ago, the Spaniard was a runner-up at the European Masters and his previous two visits to this Parisian track were encouraging, 30th on his debut followed by 20th place 12 months ago, when he was a shot off the lead after the opening round.

His scrambling skills may not be the best, but he is inside the top 20 for greens in regulation and his approach numbers are decent, so another top-20 at 9/2 with betting apps does not look beyond him.

French Open Predictions: Saddle Up With Saddier

The last of The Panel’s French Open tips is for Adrien Saddier to finish inside the top 30 in front of a partisan crowd.

The Frenchman may be outside the world’s top 200, but he has been playing solid golf in recent weeks, sneaking into the top 20 at last week’s trip to the east coast of Scotland.

That came on top of back-to-back top fives at the Czech Masters and the Danish Golf Championship, so the wheels are in motion for an assault on his home championship.

Yet to win on the main tour, Saddier has at least finished 16th twice in two of his past five visits to this course during a spell which also saw him miss out on a top 30 by one shot in 2019.

A win looks beyond him, even in this modest field which includes the Hojgaard twins, Justin Rose and Matt Wallace, but he can be a top-30 hit at 17/10 on golf betting sites.

The Panel's French Open Prediction 4: Adrien Saddier Top 30 - 17/10 With Bet365
