Brennan Johnson Next Club Odds: Tottenham Favourites To Sign Forest Starlet
The transfer deadline is almost here and the best betting sites are working overtime to bring punters the most competitive odds around.
Numerous players are hoping to secure moves before the market closes for business at 11pm on Friday.
Brennan Johnson is thought to be among them, even though the Nottingham Forest forward has not publicly stated his desire to depart his hometown club.
A host of sides are thought to be interested in signing the Wales international, who was a key part in Forest’s survival season in 2022/23.
Let’s take a look at the identity of his admirers, before analysing the various options.
Tottenham Strong Favourites To Land Forward
Over the last week or so Tottenham have moved into pole position to sign Johnson, and they are now odds-on favourites at 1/2.
The north Londoners recently pocketed £86m from the sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, and although they have started the season well, there are still doubts over their attack.
Richarlison is yet to score having replaced Kane up front, while neither Dejan Kulusevski nor Son Heung-min has set the world alight.
Another attacking option would not go amiss and Spurs have identified Johnson as their top target.
The Times have reported that Tottenham are getting closer to landing a player who is valued at £50m by Forest, but nothing has been signed yet.
Nottingham Forest Could Still Keep Hold Of Asset
Indeed, do not rule out Forest deciding to keep hold of one of their most important players.
Johnson is not only a local boy and a fan’s favourite at the City Ground, but he is also a key man when it comes to starting counter-attacks for Steve Cooper’s team.
All the indications are that Forest would be willing to part with Johnson, but their owner Evangelos Marinakis is a colourful character and few would put it past him making a late intervention.
Cooper could also decide he would rather keep hold of the Wales international.
Forest are available at 2/1 with football betting sites to retain Johnson’s services, so a move to Tottenham is definitely not a done deal.
Brentford Lead Chelsea in Johnson Race
This time last week Chelsea were at the front of the queue for Johnson, but as odds of 12/1 with Parimatch indicate they have fallen down the pecking order.
That is partly because of the emerge of Tottenham as suitors and the seriousness of the north Londoners’ approach.
It may also be because Johnson was only one of several options Chelsea were considering.
He only came onto their radar once Michael Olise, their top target previously, committed his future to Crystal Palace by signing a new four-year deal.
Chelsea have now reportedly ended their interest in Johnson, but this is a club that loves a transfer and there could be a late twist in the offing.
Brentford (6/1) are certainly keen on Johnson. They made a bid for his services after promotion in 2021 and were the first club this summer to submit an offer.
After having proposals worth £30m and £35m turned down, their most recent bid was £40m. However, Tottenham are a much bigger pull.
West Ham And Aston Villa Among Outsiders
West Ham have made a brilliant start to the season but David Moyes will still want to get more bodies in before the deadline.
The Hammers have done well to replace Declan Rice with three new midfielders, but another attacking option would be welcome. They are 16/1 with BetVictor to land Johnson.
Available at slightly longer odds of 20/1 are Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.
The former were linked with Johnson in July but there has been little in the way of rumours since then, so it would be a surprise if Emery’s side suddenly entered the race from here.
Manchester City And Newcastle Not Currently Looking
We have seen clubs sign players from out of the blue in the past, but betting apps do not expect either Manchester City (25/1) or Newcastle (33/1) to do so with Johnson.
Both teams are measured with their recruitment, and they are unlikely to suddenly target a player at the last moment.
Manchester City have added Jeremy Doku to their ranks in the last few days. He is ostensibly the replacement for Riyad Mahrez and adds another weapon to their attacking arsenal.
Newcastle have signed Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes in 2023, so they are not looking to acquire another wide player either.
Johnson’s speed and hard running makes him a good stylistic fit, but he will not end up in the northeast.
