Spanish Open Betting Tips: 5 Predictions From Club De Campo In Madrid

The DP World Tour joins forces with LIV Golf at the Spanish Open this week for what should be a great tournament in Madrid.

Betting sites make three-time champion Jon Rahm the overwhelming 16/5 favourite to win at this course for a third time following his comfortable victories in 2019 and 2022.

Tyrrell Hatton (9/1), Tommy Fleetwood (10/1) and Shane Lowry (16/1) are also in the field, along with Matteo Manassero and Aaron Rai who both gave The Panel each-way spoils at 40/1 and 19/1 respectively at last week’s BMW PGA Championship although it could have been so much better.

The Panel have been in profit to level stakes since these columns started in June and have five Spanish Open betting tips this week, starting with the main attraction.

Spanish Open Betting Tips: Rahm Can Reign in Spain Again

Rahm heads to his homeland buoyed by winning LIV Golf Chicago and an $18m bonus for finishing with the most points at the end of the season.

That win in the United States came on the back of a victory at the Centurion Club in July, so he is in great form as he prepares to entertain his fans at this 7,145-yard, tree-lined par-71 set-up featuring fairly generous fairways which favour long hitters like Rahm and good scramblers.

When the Spanish Open returned here in 2019 after a course-lengthening renovation, Rahm won by five shots and then by six two years ago, so he will be hard to live with if he’s on his game, even against a quality field like this one.

Having finished 17th (2021) and ninth (2023) in his other two appearances here, it’s clear that this track suits Rahm and The Panel are going for a straight win as the first of their Spanish Open tips.

Spanish Open Odds: Flying Ferguson A Contender

More than two months ago, Ewen Ferguson lifted his third DP World Tour title at the BMW International Open and the Scot looks like he is in the mood for a repeat this week.

Ferguson understandably dropped off after his two-shot victory in Munich, missing the cut in three of his next four tournaments, but he finished just outside the top 20 at The Open.

Since then, he has finished 36th at the Irish Open and was inside the top 20 at the PGA Championship, so he is clearly getting back on track.

Twelve months ago, Ferguson finished an excellent ninth on his tournament debut at this course where he struggled on the 10th, dropping three shots over the course of the week, so if he can improve on that hole his chances of victory will certainly improve.

Ferguson has respectable scrambling numbers on tour this season and although he is not the longest hitter, he stands seventh and 21st for Strokes Gained: Approach and Tee-To-Green respectively.

The Panel like his chances and he gets the nod at 50/1 with betting apps as the next of their Spanish Open tips.

Spanish Open Preview: Otaegui Form Improving

Adrian Otaegui is the second of three Spaniards to be included in this week’s tips after bouncing back to form over the last fortnight.

The 31-year-old from San Sebastian has won in Spain on this tour before at the Andalucia Masters in 2022 and has tasted success at the China Open this season.

Five consecutive missed cuts from the BMW International Open suggested his season was in the doldrums but he seems to have turned a corner after back-to-back top 20s at Royal County Down and Wentworth.

Otaegui has hardly set the world alight at the Club de Campo in the past, but his record in his last two visits read 17-28, so he seems comfortable enough on the course.

On the negative side, he is a bit short off the tee, but he is solid from tee-to-green and his scrambling skills are also top drawer.

With that in mind, Otaegui gets the nod at a track where a Spaniard has won in three of the last four renewals.

Spanish Open Predictions: Garcia Heredia And Pepperell To Shine

Last week’s top 30 pick was a no-show and top 20 hope Shubhankar Sharma missed the weekend, but The Panel are sticking with the same markets, starting with Alfredo Garcia Heredia, who has excellent course form.

The Spaniard has yet to win at this level, but he was sixth on this track in 2022 and inside the top 10 again a year later.

Although he is just outside the world’s top 300 in the rankings and is 175/1 with new betting sites to win this week, he produced his best performance of the year at the recent European Masters where he lost a play-off to Matt Wallace.

Solid from tee-to-green and on the putting surface, Garcia Heredia could go well this week and looks an interesting prospect at 9/2 for a top-20 finish against a tough field.

The Panel's Spanish Open Prediction 4: Alfredo Garcia Heredia Top 20 - 9/2 With SpreadEx

Eddie Pepperell found his form last week when a pair of closing 69s ensured 12th spot at the DP World Tour’s flagship event.

Pepperell has now made the cut in five of his last seven outings and he has fond memories of this course, having posted 13th in 2022 followed by 20th 12 months ago.

This course looks like it’s one for those who like to stretch their wings from off the tee which isn’t Pepperell’s strength, but he was excellent last week and a top-30 finish at 5/2 with golf betting sites does not look beyond the laconic Englishman.

The Panel's Spanish Open Prediction 5: Eddie Pepperell Top 30 - 5/2 With Bet365
