15:20 Epsom – Alligator Alley – 1pt @ 14/1

Alligator Alley is a hold up performer but he is very, very quick. He’s a six-time winner so it’s not like he’s a losing machine but races rarely pan out to see him at his absolute best and I’m really interested in how he’ll get on over Epsom’s rapid 5f test for the first time. I have an inclination that he’ll love it and will certainly find things panning out better than they have done for him at York the last twice.

Both of those efforts were reasonable and although he won at the track as a juvenile, I’m left wondering if he likes it all that much. Another 2lbs of leniency from the handicapper has come his way, putting him 4lbs below his Southwell win from January, and he definitely has some weight in hand for the next time there’s a pace collapse in-front. A visor goes on and if it helps, he’s a player.

17:05 Epsom – Many A Star – 1pt @ 10/1

Many A Star lacks a recent run, which is a worry, but his record when fresh is solid and we are in June so I’d imagine he has had time to get plenty of work in at home. He was fit and in-form when sent off as the favourite for this race last season but proceeded to miss the kick and ran his race upside down, so I wouldn’t be lessening his claims to be an Epsom horse purely based on that spin anyway.

He won again two starts later at Goodwood, proving downhill tracks aren’t a problem at all, and I reckon if they go hard here and he settles into a nice rhythm, we could see something close to a career-best. Tom Marquand being booked looks like a signal of intent and I don’t think this fellow has maxed out yet (despite being a 6-year-old). Granted some luck in the run and the fitness being there, 10’s are big.
