Masters Odds And Tips: Scheffler Favourite To Land Second Green Jacket

Masters Golf Tips:

Masters betting is hotting up ahead of the 2024 tournament and all eyes are on Scottie Scheffler as he leads the pack into Day One.

World No.1 Scheffler is a huge favourite with the best betting sites to reclaim the Green Jacket he surrendered to Jon Rahm last year and bookmakers have been forced to drive his odds down.

The American is 4/1 to win this year with 888Sport, while some bookies have even gone as short as 7/2. That is a crazy price considering Augusta National is one of the most unpredictable courses in world golf.

Still, it shows just how impressive Scheffler has been heading into the first major of the year.

Meanwhile, a cohort of LIV Golf rebels are back to try and claim a second major honour from under the noses of the PGA continent. Brooks Koepka delivered the first blow for LIV at the PGA Championship last year.

Joaquin Niemann is the man to watch from among the LIV players preparing for Thursday’s opening round. Rahm will draw the media spotlight but Niemann is going places.

This Masters tournament could prove to be a tipping point in the relationship between the PGA and LIV.

A growing number of rebels are unhappy they are denied the chance to play PGA tournaments outside of the majors – a remarkable claim seeing as they knew they’d be outcast when they joined LIV.

It all makes for a tantalising few days of golf betting to come. Here are our four picks for the Masters in 2024…

Will Scottie Scheffler Claim A Second Green Jacket?

Let’s start with the obvious choice. Scheffler comes into the 2024 Masters in the form of his life.

The top-ranked player in the world won the Arnold Palmer and the Players titles last month, and was a shot behind Stephan Jäger at the Houston Open a week ago.

Scheffler won the Masters in 2022 when holding off pressure from Rory McIlroy to shoot 10 under.

He looks untouchable but he hasn’t faced any LIV players this year, which provides a different test.

Golf betting sites have defending champ and top rebel Rahm at 10/1, with Brooks Koepka at 16/1. Both could well challenge here, but 888Sport’s 4/1 odds on Scheffler remain the smartest outright bet.

Hideki Matsuyama Loves Augusta

Unibet are offering seven places in the each way golf markets and Hideki Matsuyama looks a great bet to exploit that enhanced range.

The Japanese star won the Genesis Open in February and has since placed twice in the top seven.

The 32-year-old looks a sure bet to make the cut and should compete for a top 10 finish.

Given he won the Masters in 2021, there’s good reason to believe he can hold off the field once again.

Matsuyama is playing well and is well versed with the Augusta course. He’s a great shout at 18/1 here, with Unibet paying each way down to seventh.

Joaquin Niemann Will Be Among Top LIV Golfers

Niemann has complained that he should be one of the top-ranked golfers at the Masters this year.

He is LIV’s highest-ranked player but the Chilean is deemed 93rd in golf’s official world rankings.

His ranking does not hide Niemann’s obvious talent and viability to win the 2024 Masters.

Betting apps reckon he is 6/1 to be the highest-placed LIV golfer come Sunday evening. That’s a shrewd bet.

Niemann has won two of LIV’s five tournaments in 2024 and tied ninth in Miami last time out.

Only Rahm (5/1) and Koepka (15/2) are ahead of him in this market, which is a lot more competitive than the outright odds.

In that sense, betting on Niemann to be the best LIV golfer is a smarter option than gunning for him to clinch the Green Jacket.

Patrick Reed A Solid Shout For A Top 10 Finish

Patrick Reed has kept a low profile heading into Augusta this year but his form on this course suggests he is a decent shout to again place in the top 10.

Reed won the Masters in 2018 and he’s crafted a 60% record of reaching the top 10 at Augusta since.

The American recently posted his best performance of the year when tying ninth alongside Niemann in Miami a week ago. Nail a couple of 69 rounds again and Reed’s odds will suddenly plummet.

He is perhaps underpriced to win the whole thing at 70/1

We can’t expect him to fend off Rahm, Scheffler, McIlroy and Niemann here. However, an 11/2 stab at 10bet on a top-10 finish isn’t out of the question.

After all, Reed is used to seeing his name towards the top of the Masters leaderboard during the Sunday back nine.
