Gavin & Stacey Odds: Corden And Jones To Pen Prequel Or Musical Next?
The Gavin & Stacey finale was the talk of Christmas just gone, and the hype around the show has continued into 2025 as fans are desperate for some sort of spin-off.
James Corden and Ruth Jones are the brains behind the successful series. But both insisted during the run-up to the final episode that there won't be another, and it's 4/7 on betting sites for that to be the case.
However, James has confessed he would be "so disappointed" if he and Ruth don't write anything else together at some point.
Talking about a potential spin-off, he said on the Table Manners podcast: "We don't know if we have another idea in us but I can honestly say that if we didn't attempt to try and even explore the idea of writing together then I'd be so disappointed."
Gavin & Stacey Odds: What Will James Corden And Ruth Jones Write Next?

Ruth added: "I couldn't bear it. I love being in the room with James, it's so fun."
When asked by Heart Radio's Emma Bunton if they will write together again, James said: "We'd like to. It might be a while, it might take us a while.
"We've got to find us a new idea, but we are definitely, definitely, going to give it a shot."
One project we know the pair are working on is a Gavin & Stacey book.
Entitled When Gavin Met Stacey and Everything in Between: A Story Of Love And Friendship, the tome will recall the "rejection, obstacles and challenges" faced by the pair on their way to creating the BBC sitcom, and it will be published on October 16.
But what else could James and Ruth write together?
Gavin & Stacey On Stage
One way of delighting Gavin & Stacey super-fans could be to pen a prequel series together.
This wouldn't interfere with the story as we left it, which saw James and Ruth's characters Smithy and Nessa finally tie the knot.
But it would be a perfect way of exploring the back stories of some of the show's beloved characters.
Who wouldn't want to find out what Uncle Bryn was like during his younger years, or why Gwen loves omelettes so much?
Or we could watch the story of how Gav's mum and dad, Pam and Mick, got together, or even see what Gavin and Smithy were like at school.
Gavin & Stacey Odds: Will There Be Another Episode
No | 4/7 | 63.6% |
Yes | 7/4 | 36.4% |
It's 11/10 on UK betting sites for a Gavin & Stacey prequel to get the green light, but it's just 5/4 for the pair to write a Gavin & Stacey musical or play.
The theatre has been a popular route for several successful BBC comedies of late.
The Only Fools and Horses musical has been a roaring success since it began in 2019, and it is now touring the UK and Fawlty Towers was recently turned into a play by John Cleese.
What's more, many Gavin & Stacey super-fans would no doubt love James and Ruth to pen a big screen version of the show, but that might be too similar to the series.
Fat Friends Return
The Christmas Day finale of Gavin & Stacey ensured the programme became one of the most watched scripted TV shows of the century.
But none of it would've been possible without British drama Fat Friends, on which Ruth and James met.
Written by the late, great Kay Mellor, the ITV series told the story of a fictional slimming club and its members.
Gavin & Stacey Odds: Will There Be A Spin-Off Series?
Yes | 8/11 | 57.9% |
No | 11/8 | 42.1% |
It starred Ruth as Kelly Chadwick, a bride-to-be desperate to fit into her wedding dress, while James portrayed Jamie Rymer, who was bullied over his size.
The show, which aired four series over five years and also starred Gavin & Stacey's Alison Steadman, reached a new audience recently when it was picked up by Netflix.
But James and Ruth could breathe even more life into it by penning a reboot or a remake.
It's 2/1 for the pair to do so, but James could also try to tempt Ruth into making TV adaptations or films of some of his previous works.
He portrayed the lead character in play One Man, Two Guvnors in both the West End and on Broadway, and it really helped to put him on the map in America after he landed a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play.

What's more, he starred in 2006 film The History Boys, which was adapted by Alan Bennett from his play of the same name.
James enlisted several of his co-stars to appear as Gavin and Smithy's mates in Gavin & Stacey, including Russell Tovey, Andrew Knott, and Samuel Anderson, and Adrian Scarborough portrayed Pete in the BBC sitcom.
It's 4/1 the pair create a new version of The History Boys and 6/1 they do the same for One Man, Two Guvnors.
But after penning a Gavin & Stacey book together, it wouldn't be a huge surprise if Ruth and James co-wrote a novel together (8/1).
Pete And Dawn Sequel
If a prequel did get off the ground then that would tick the Gavin & Stacey spin-off box.
It's 8/11 on betting apps for James and Ruth to make one, and BBC bosses are said to be "living in hope" that a potential spin-off emerges one day.
A TV source recently told The Sun newspaper: "James and Ruth are adamant this is the last of Gavin and Stacey. But, when a programme achieves such results, execs will always hope for more.

"At the end of the day, ratings talk and it would be madness to close the door on such a hit forever when fans loved it so much."
Adrian and Julia Davis' characters Pete and Dawn are the current frontrunners to be the subject of a show spin-off, at 13/8, followed by Stacey's mum Gwen and Nessa's ex Dave Coaches (2/1).
It comes after the shock finale revelation that Gwen and Dave are now dating.
What's more, it's 3/1 that Uncle Bryn - played by Rob Brydon - and Jason are the main subjects, which might mean viewers will finally get to find out what happened on the mystery fishing trip all those years ago.
