Who Will Win The Premier League Golden Boot? Palmer Now Level With Haaland

Just when we thought Erling Haaland was going to cruise to a second successive Premier League Golden Boot award, Cole Palmer suddenly emerges as a serious contender.

Before his last three games, Palmer was on 13 goals, a long way behind Haaland, who took his tally to 20 with a goal in Manchester City's 5-1 win at home to Luton.

But Palmer scored a dramatic hat-trick, including goals in the 100th and 101st minute, in Chelsea's 4-3 win over Manchester United, and scored four in the Blues' 6-0 win over Everton to move level with Haaland on 20 goals.

Both are one goal clear of Ollie Watkins who scored his 19th goal of the season in Aston Villa's 2-0 win at Arsenal.

Liverpool's Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, Bournemouth's Dominic Solanke and Newcastle's Alexsander Isak are locked on 17 goals.

Betting sites still have Haaland as the odds-on favourite to become the first player since Salah in 2019 to win back-to-back awards.

But with five rivals challenging him, the Norwegian needs to finish the season with a bang if he is to win the Golden Boot.

Can Haaland Hold Off His Challengers?

Erling Haaland's move to Manchester City has to go down as one of the best transfers in the history of the Premier League.

Costing just £51m, Haaland has scored 56 times in 61 league games, which works out at around £910,000 per goal.

City's prolific striker missed a chunk of the season earlier this year, but with goals in back-to-back league games, Haaland is looking sharp for the end of the season.

Haaland is the 8/11 favourite on betting apps to add a second Golden Boot to his ever growing list of accolades.

Palmer Playing His Way Into Euro Squad?

Gareth Southgate has the difficult choice of picking an England squad to win this summer's European Championships.

Three months ago, Cole Palmer might not have been in contention, but he surely has to be now, as he became the first Chelsea player to score 20 league goals since Diego Costa in the 2016/17 campaign.

Palmer, who was 200/1 to win the Golden Boot award in January, also has nine assists and has been the one bright light for Chelsea is what was a disappointing season in the league.

The former Manchester City star cost the Blues £42.5m, but he is making that fee look very cheap right now. With a 100% record from nine penalties, Palmer (7/2) could be an important player for England this summer.

He may be boarding the plane to Germany as the fourth Chelsea player to win a Golden Boot award.

Euro Place Beckons For Prolific Watkins

Aston Villa took a massive step towards qualification for next season's Champions League by beating Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates.

Ollie Watkins' 19th goal of the season sealed the win and moved the Villans three points clear of Tottenham and 13 clear of Newcastle and Manchester United.

Watkins is another player hoping to be called up by Southgate for the Euros and his form this season suggests he should be in the squad

Not only has Watkins found the net 19 times, he has also provided 10 assists and if he can continue his productive season, his Golden Boots odds of 6/1 on football betting sites should be considered.

Salah's Sights Set On Fourth Golden Boot

Thierry Henry is the only player to win four Golden Boot awards in the Premier League, but the Frenchman could be joined on that total this season by Mohamed Salah.

Salah is three goals behind Haaland and Palmer in this season's goalscoring charts and he's going to need a strong finish to the season to have his name engraved on the trophy for a fourth time.

Liverpool have dropped five points in their last two games as they look to win their second Premier League title, and Salah hasn't looked himself in front of goal recently.

However, the Egyptian (14/1) is capable of putting together a decent run together between now and the end of the season.

Salah is currently 10th in the all-time list of Premier League goalscorers, but he could climb to eighth before the season ends

He needs seven to overtake Jermain Defoe and eight to dislodge Robbie Fowler as Liverpool's all-time leading scorer in the Premier League.

If Liverpool are to win their second Premier League title, then Salah's goals will be important.

Golden Boot Would Be Cherry On The Top For Solanke

Of the players in with a shout of winning this season's Golden Boot award, Dominic Solanke might be the most surprising name on the list.

The Bournemouth striker shares fourth place with Salah on 17 goals, which is 36% of his side's league goals this season.

No player has a bigger share of their team's goals proving the importance of Solanke to the Cherries.

Three goals behind Haaland, Solanke would be a very surprising winner. The 26-year-old, who was 250/1 in pre-season can now be backed at 25/1 to land the accolade.

Isak Finishing The Season Strongly

Newcastle may miss out on Champions League football next season, but they have a great chance of being in the Europa League after winning their last two games.

The Magpies have picked up 10 points from their last four games and Alexander Isak has scored five times in those games.

Isak, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad for £63m in August 2022, could be top of the charts had he not missed a quarter of his side's league games through injury.

The Sweden international is on 17 goals and is 14/1 to be the first Newcastle player since Alan Shearer in 1997 to win the Golden Boot award.

Son Aiming For Second Award

Tottenham's Son Heung-Min shared the 2021/22 Golden Boot with Mohamed Salah, but Son's 23 goals included no penalties, while five of Salah's goals were spot kicks.

The South Korean is five goals behind Haaland and Palmer, which might be too much to claw back between now and the end of the season.

On penalty duty following the departure of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich, Son needs a purple patch to give him a chance of winning a second Golden Boot award.

Son, who hasn't scored in his last three, can be backed at 50/1 to win this season's Golden Boot award.
