Adam Caplan's Best DFS Team for NFL Wild Card Weekend 2019

The NFL playoffs are about to begin this weekend and we have an interesting slate of games.

While none on paper look to be great for fantasy football betting reasons, there are some individual matchups to exploit, which you’ll see down below.

So with that in mind, it’s off to the Wild Card round!

Quarterback Best Bet

Russell Wilson = $5,700 at DraftKings

Matchup: Seattle Seahawks at Dallas Cowboys

This has been a very interesting season for the seventh-year signal caller. Wilson is averaging under 27 pass attempts per game, but he posted a career-high 35 TD passes.

The Seahawks are very committed to running the football, so you wouldn’t think he would average over two TD passes per game, but their passing game works quite well off of play-action passes, and their offensive line has been much improved this season.

While some would say the Dallas defense is one of the better ones in the NFL, the Cowboys have had their share of inconsistency. For the season, they’re averaging giving up about 1.5 TDs per game to QBs while giving up about 249 yards in the air.

Over their last 4 games, the Cowboys defense has given up six TD passes and an average of 264 yards per game.

In his matchup against the Cowboys in Week 3, Wilson only attempted 26 passes, but still threw two TD passes, which is something he did in at least 13 out of his 16 games in the regular season.

Running Back Best Bet

Ezekiel Elliott = $9,000 at DraftKings

Matchup: Dallas Cowboys vs. Seattle Seahawks

Make no mistake about it: The Cowboys will go as far as Elliott, not QB Dak Prescott, takes them in the playoffs. Elliott, now in his third season, has become the foundation of the Cowboys offense.

In his matchup at the Seahawks very early this season, Elliott only had 16 carries, but for 127 yards (7.94 yards per carry) while catching three passes for 11 yards.

While the Seahawks have been average against run over their last four games (4.35 yards per carry), they have struggled lately covering running backs. Over that time span, they have given up 25 receptions for 161 yards and three TD catches.

And for the season, they have given up 99 receptions for 909 yards and six TD catches (tied for worst in NFL) to running backs.

Wide Receiver Best Bets

DeAndre Hopkins = $8,700 at DraftKings

Matchup: Houston Texans vs. Indianapolis Colts

One of the most amazing stats for Hopkins that he has posted 115 receptions this season to go along with zero drops. And he has done that while being on the injury report for most weeks this season.

He’ll face a Colts defense that has actually been solid against opposing wide receivers this season. Over their last four games, they have given up 37 receptions (just over 9 per game), 403 yards and a TD.

In his two games against the Colts this season, Hopkins has 14 receptions for 205 yards and has scored a TD in each game.

Hopkins, no matter how good the Colts secondary has been lately, can’t really be stopped and it’s not as though he hasn’t done well against them this season. And also keep in mind Texans head coach Bill O’Brien, who calls the plays on offense, has targeted 22 passes to Hopkins when playing against the Colts this season.

Doug Baldwin = $6,200 at DraftKings

Matchup: Seattle Seahawks at Dallas Cowboys

While the eighth-year pro has been dealing with a lot of injuries this season, he has picked up his play of late. Baldwin has scored in four out of his last six games and has five TD catches over that time span.

The former undrafted free agent, who lines up primarily in the slot, should face Cowboys slot CB Anthony Brown, who is very beatable.

For example, two weeks ago Buccaneers slot WR Adam Humphries had 10 receptions against the Cowboys.

When they throw the ball, Baldwin figures to the Seahawks most targeted receiver in this game.

Tight End Best Bet

Eric Ebron = $5,200 at DraftKings

Matchup: Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans

There’s no question that the former first-round pick has been one of the biggest surprises for fantasy owners this season with his 14 total TDs (1 rushing, 13 receiving). Ebron, now in his fifth season and first with the Colts, also set career highs in receptions (66) and receiving yards (750) this season.

One of the keys for Ebron’s success this season has his been his ability to play through various injury issues. Despite the injury-prone tag he received earlier in his career, he hasn’t missed a game over his last two seasons and has played in 41 straight games.

Over his two games against the Texans, he has nine receptions for 105 yards and two TD catches.

And the Texans have been one of the worst teams covering opposing tight ends lately. Over their last four games, they’ve given up 29 receptions for 309 yards (10.7 yards per catch) and three TDs.

Because of the lack of depth at the wide receiver position for the Colts, Ebron’s role has simply been greater than most imagined it would be this season, but he has been an incredible bargain for fantasy owners.

Flex Best Bet

Gus Edwards = $4,200 at DraftKings

Matchup: Baltimore Ravens vs. Los Angeles Chargers

Since Lamar Jackson became their starting quarterback, the Ravens have become the NFL’s version of college option offense.

Believe it or not, Jackson has more rush attempts (119) than pass attempts (92) in his seven starts. And with Jackson as the quarterback, the coaches turned to undrafted free agent rookie Edwards because he fits their current profile of offense.

Over his 11 games played, Edwards is averaging a very solid 5.2 yards per carry while posting 718 yards on the ground and two TDs.

On the season, the Chargers have given up 11 rushing TDs to go along with 1375 yards (4.31 yards per carry). Over their last four games, the Chargers are giving up 4.4 yards per carry and 5 total TDs (3 rushing, 2 receiving).

And it’s worth noting that the Chargers will be without all three starting linebackers (Denzel Perryman-on IR, Jatavis Brown-out at least this week due to injury, and rookie Kyzir White-on IR) and starting DT Corey Liuget (on IR).

Two weeks ago against the Chargers, Edwards had 14 carries for 92 yards (6.6 yards per carry) and the matchup is actually looking even better at time this time around.
