Adam Caplan's NFL Daily Fantasy Top Plays for Week 17

It’s Week 17 and there are certainly some playing time challenges for various reasons for players around the NFL.

However, if you understand what’s at stake, you can find some really good values for fantasy football betting fans. The more the teams have to play for, the better chance those players have at putting up numbers in good matchups.

I’ve mostly looked at players have very little or no risk and if there’s a little risk in using them, I noted that.

And with that in mind, it’s on to the final week of the regular season!

Be sure to check out our list of the best daily fantasy sites before playing.

Week 17 Quarterback Best Bet

Nick Foles = $7,600 at FanDuel

Matchup: Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins

Here we are once again.

With starting QB Carson Wentz sidelined with an injury, Foles, now in his seventh season, is getting the job done for the Eagles. Foles set an Eagles passing record with 471 yards the air last week against the visiting Texans. Oh, he also threw 4 TD passes. Foles was in such a great rhythm and the Eagles offensive line, which had been inconsistent for most of the season, played very well against a very good Texans front-7.

Foles will be facing an average Redskins secondary whose numbers of late have been good, but let’s take a look at the quarterbacks they’ve faced over their last three games: Blaine Gabbert, Marcus Mariota (injured in game), Cody Kessler, Eli Manning.

This time around, the Eagles have tremendous urgency and you can expect them to attack the Redskins secondary, so Foles should be in store for another solid game.

Week 17 Running Back Best Bet

Jamaal Williams = $6,800 at FanDuel

Matchup: Green Bay Packers vs. Detroit Lions

This is a very tough week as we try to navigate matchups for teams that are out of the playoffs or teams that have their playoff seeding set. So, I’m trying to focus on players who should see a lot of playing time.

Williams was clearly the featured back last week against the host Jets and he didn’t disappoint, finishing with 21 total touches, 156 total yards and a TD run.

What has been surprising of late from Williams is his usage in the passing game. In three out of his last four games, the second-year RB has caught at least four passes.

With RB Aaron Jones on IR, Williams should be in store for a lot of work against the Lions defense.

Week 17 Wide Receiver Best Bet

Robert Woods = $7,600 at FanDuel

Matchup: Los Angeles Rams vs. San Francisco 49ers

Talk about a player who has completely gone under the radar yet has put together a huge season.

Did you know that Woods, now in his sixth NFL season and second with the Rams, has 84 receptions for 1,195 yards through 15 games?

His role has picked up after slot WR Cooper Kupp was lost due to a torn ACL, but Woods was also doing well before Kupp suffered his injury. And he’ll be facing a struggling 49ers secondary that has given up 43 receptions, 562 yards (140.5 yards per game), 13.07 yards per catch and eight TDs over its last four games.

The only potential negative here is that though the Rams are trying to secure a first-round bye, it’s possible if they are up big in the second half that they start pulling their starters out of the game.

Other than that possibility, there’s no reason to think Woods won’t do well in this matchup.

Week 17 Tight End Best Bet

Zach Ertz = $7,800 at FanDuel

Matchup: Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins

This is a must win game for the Eagles and their go-to pass target will likely be the sixth-year pro.

Ertz, who has set an NFL record for tight end receptions for a season with 113, has been a security blanket for Eagles signal callers in a big way this season.

So why has he taken a big jump this season?

Ertz, for the first time as a full-time starter, has not missed a game and has rarely appeared on the injury report this season. He also is known as one of the best route runners in the NFL and gets open repeatedly each game.

While the Redskins are actually decent at covering the tight end position (18 receptions, 218 yards, four TDs over last four games), they cut veteran D.J. Swearinger earlier this week, who was their best cover safety against opposing TEs.

It’s also worth noting that Ertz has been great against the Redskins defense of late. Over his last three games, he has 22 receptions, 265 yards and a TD.

Week 17 Flex Best Bet

Jordy Nelson = $5,200 at FanDuel

Matchup: Oakland Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs

While many people thought the 33-year old, 10th-year pro was finished earlier this this season after posting rather pedestrian numbers, Nelson has surprising picked up his play recently.

Over his last four games, Nelson has been on fire with 29 receptions for 308 yards.

Some of Nelson’s success can be attributed to being healthier and also due to the fact that the Raiders are light on depth at the wide receiver position, so his role grew out of necessity.

Nevertheless, Nelson has really gotten it together and he’s going to be a pass defense that has really struggled of late. Over its last four games, the Chiefs defense has given up 707 yards (176.75 per game) and five TDs to opposing wide receivers.

It’s also worth noting that Nelson posted 10 receptions for 97 yards last week. If you’re in a league where you get points for receptions or are looking at a cheap DFS player, Nelson is certainly worth considering.
