Adam Caplan's Best DFS Team for NFL Divisional Playoffs 2019
Last week’s NFL Wild Card weekend featured a bunch of good games on paper from a viewership perspective, but those games did not produce quality fantasy football betting numbers, which was mostly of the feeling coming into the weekend.
But the good news is this week’s matchups are looking much better for fantasy purposes.
With that, good luck in the Divisional Round!
Quarterback Best Bet
Andrew Luck = $6,200 at DraftKings
Matchup: Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs
While it’s supposed to snow on Saturday, the conditions as of Friday morning don’t appear to be so bad that both teams won’t be able to pass the ball at a decent enough level.
It’s true that the Colts like to be balanced on offense, but it’s hard to imagine a scenario where Luck won’t put up good numbers during Saturday’s game in Kansas City.
The Chiefs defense, which gave up 30 passing TDs this season while giving up about 295 yards in the air per game, gave up just over 25 fantasy points per game.
And because this figures to be a high-scoring game, Luck should have no problem getting the job done in the end.
Running Back Best Bet
Alvin Kamara = $7,300 at DraftKings
Matchup: New Orleans Saints vs. Philadelphia Eagles
It was surprising to see Bears head coach Matt Nagy ignore second-year RB Tarik Cohen in the passing game last week as the Eagles had struggled mightily against the running back position lately against the pass.
Saints head coach Sean Payton happens to be arguably the NFL’s best play caller, so it’s hard to imagine that Kamara won’t be featured as a receiver.
Over their final four games of the regular season, the Eagles gave up 35 receptions (8.75 per game), 239 yards (59.75 yards per game), and 6.83 yards per catch.
And his previous matchup this season against the Eagles, Kamara posted 71 yards on 13 carries (5.46 yards per carry) to go along with a 31-yard catch for a TD.
So look for Kamara to get the job done against the Eagles defense on Sunday afternoon.
Wide Receiver Best Bets
T.Y. Hilton = $6,700 at DraftKings
Matchup: Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs
Believe it or not, despite not practicing for several weeks due to a lingering ankle injury, the seventh-year pass catcher hasn’t slowed down very much.
Over his last eight games (including last week’s playoff game), the talented pass catcher has 52 receptions (6.5 per game) and 925 yards (115.6 yards per game).
He’ll face a secondary that has struggled against the pass this season. The Chiefs, after CB Marcus Peters last year, simply don’t have a solid cover cornerback.
They are giving up about 172 yards and just over 12 receptions per game to opposing wide receivers. And they also have given up 14 TDs this season to that position.
Hilton is essentially all the team has at the receiver position from a high-end standpoint and he figures to put together another solid game this week.
Julian Edelman = $6,300 at DraftKings
Matchup: New England Patriots vs. Los Angeles Chargers
While the Chargers have been very solid in coverage against the wide receiver position (13 receptions and 125.6 yards per game to go along with 14 TDs on the season), the 10th-year pro still figures to be heavily involved.
Edelman hadn’t had a game this season where he had less than four receptions. And he closed the regular season well with TD catches in four out of his last six games with TDs.
With veteran TE Rob Gronkowski slowing down this season, Edelman has essentially become QB Tom Brady’s favorite passing target (nine pass targets per game), so expect Edelman to be very active in this game.
Tight End Best Bet
Gerald Everett = $2,700 at DraftKings
Matchup: Los Angeles Rams vs. Dallas Cowboys
I’ve listed the second-year tight end in this space for a few reasons.
After dealing with a preseason shoulder injury and being a bit behind to start the season, Everett started to come on during the second half of the season and posted back-to-back games with TD catches. And in Weeks 14-16, he posted a surprising 14 total receptions.
And with slot WR Cooper Kupp being lost for the season, it certainly makes sense why the athletic Everett saw an increase in passing game usage lately.
The team he’s facing this week happens to be eighth- worst against the tight end position giving up about 14 fantasy points per game.
The Cowboys, who are very solid at cornerback, are one of the weakest at the safety position in the NFL. So, if you’re looking for a cheap value at the tight end spot this week, Everett is worth a consideration.
Flex Best Bet
Marlon Mack = $5,800 at DraftKings
Matchup: Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs
Don’t let his reputation as being just a change-of-pace fool you. He’s way more than that.
Mack, who has good size for the running back position (5-11, 213), has put together a breakout sophomore season.
The former University of South Florida back has put up 100+ yards on the ground in three out of his last four games and averaging 110 yards per game over his last four. And he’s averaging a very solid 4.7 yards per carry this season and averaged 16.25 carries per game.
This week, he’ll be facing a Chiefs defense that has struggled against opposing running backs for most of the season. They finished the regular season giving up a very high 4.96 yards per carry and 14 rushing TDs.
And running backs have done well in the air averaging six receptions and a very high 9.62 yards per catch while posting six TD catches.
This all adds up to a solid flex option this week.
