Scottie Scheffler is the hot favourite with betting sites to win this week’s US Open and make it back-to-back majors following his second Masters success in April.
Our group of experts comprising The Panel have unsurprisingly nailed their colours to the Scheffler mast in our best US Open betting tips, but the purpose of this preview is to pick out four each-way value selections for the third major of the year.
Patience will be key to success at the lengthy Pinehurst No.2, a stunning Donald Ross-designed course famed for its turtleback green complexes.
Martin Kaymer famously used his putter in the run-off areas en route to a wire-to-wire eight-shot victory in the 2014 US Open at the same venue, but will the same strategy prevail 10 years later?
Sepp Straka gave us an each-way pay-out at 66/1 with his fifth-placed finish at the Memorial Tournament over the weekend and Billy Horschel also posted a top 20 at 13/8, so hopefully we can stay on a roll in North Carolina.
Matsuyama Has Key To Unlock Pinehurst Door
Hideki Matsuyama is one of our selections for a top-20 finish, but he is also the headline pick for our US Open outsiders.
The 2021 Masters champion has an excellent majors record on American soil, missing the cut just twice in 36 appearances and he has three top 10s from 11 attempts at winning the US Open, including fourth place at Brookline two years ago.
The 32-year-old Japanese has been in brilliant form this season, winning the ninth PGA Tour title of his career at Riviera in February, since when he has finished inside the top eight in three of his last six tournaments.
Matsuyama was 12th at Bay Hill and he heads to Pinehurst brimming with confidence after an excellent performance at Muirfield over the weekend.

The fairways may be wide at this par-70 course measuring 7,548 yards, but the real test will be keeping approach shots on the plateaued greens.
More often than not, the ball will head into the run-off areas, so missing the target in the right areas will be crucial to getting up and down.
Matsuyama has the best Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green stats this season and is sixth for scrambling, so he has the skill-set needed to tame this tough course.
BetMGM is offering seven places at 45/1 on Matsuyama and that is a price worth taking as the first of The Panel’s US Open each-way tips.
The Panel Tip 1 - Hideki Matsuyama To Win (Each-Way) - 45/1 With BetMGM (Seven Places)
Stick With Straka For Major Assault
The Panel are keeping faith with Straka for the next of our US Open each-way tips at much bigger odds offered by betting apps.
The Austrian holed out from the rough on the final hole for a birdie to give us a near-9/1 pay-out on the places and he may need to produce those moments of magic at Pinehurst this week.
Straka had a positive number for Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green at Muirfield and his scrambling stats are generally pretty good.
A solid ball-striker who finds fairways 77.26% of the time, second only to Collin Morikawa this season, Straka should at least give himself chances to hit the greens from ideal spots.
He was also inside the top five for putting last week which will prove handy on these lightning-fast greens.
Bet365 is offering 80/1 on eight each-way places on a player who finished seventh in last year’s USPGA Championship and was runner-up at Hoylake.
The Panel Tip 2: Sepp Straka To Win (Each-Way) - 80/1 With Bet365 (Eight Places)
Noren A Dark Horse For Maiden Major
Alex Noren has a miserable US Open record, but the Swede has rediscovered his form this year and looks like he could be an each-way contender.
Golf betting sites are offering 100/1 on Noren this week and that price looks appealing bearing in mind he has finished inside the top 25 in nine of his last 10 tournaments, including 12th at the USPGA Championship – his best major performance on American soil.
The 10-time European Tour winner, who is just outside the world’s top 50, revealed after his final round at Valhalla that he had “never hit it this good on the weekend and throughout a tournament”, adding: “it’s a big mental step for me to understand that I have a good enough game to compete”.
Noren turns 42 next month, but the younger bombers will not have it all their own way at Pinehurst which requires imagination and craft.
In the top 10 for SG: Around-the-Green metrics and third for scrambling in 2024, this could be Noren’s best chance of winning a maiden major.
Although there are bigger prices out there, we’re going with Ladbrokes at 80/1 for 10 places as the next of our US Open each-way tips.
The Panel Tip 3: Alex Noren To Win (Each_Way) - 80/1 With Ladbrokes (10 Places)
Pinehurst May Suit Hughes
Finally, Mackenzie Hughes catches the eye at 200/1 with new betting sites to launch a challenge this week.
The Canadian has made the cut in his last three US Opens (15-24-29) and his touch around the greens suggests he could be in the mix.
Hughes has finished inside the top 10 in three of his last eight tournaments and although he missed the cut at Valhalla, this course is more likely to suit his game.
The Panel Tip 4: Mackenzie Hughes To Win (Each-Way) - 200/1 With Bet365 (Eight Places)
