James Maddison Next Club Odds: Spurs And Newcastle Chase England Star
The transfer window is officially open and the best betting sites anticipate business ramping up in the coming weeks.
Premier League clubs have not yet returned for pre-season, but deals are already being done up and down the division.
As things stand, though, James Maddison is officially a Championship player following Leicester City’s shock relegation last term.
There is no doubt that the England international will seek pastures new this summer, but it is not yet clear where he will be plying his trade in the 2023/24 campaign.
Let’s take a look at some of the contenders to sign Leicester City’s star man.
Tottenham Could Be Very Keen On James Maddison Transfer
As things stand it looks to be a two-horse race for Maddison’s services, with Tottenham Hotspur providing competition to Newcastle.
The north Londoners are priced at 10/11 with football betting sites to sign the Leicester man, who may prefer to join a club in the capital than one in the northeast.
Ange Postecoglou, the new Spurs manager, will expect to be backed in the transfer market this summer.
The former Celtic head coach will no doubt be keen to bolster the backline he has inherited, but a midfield addition will surely be on his wish list too.
Maddison would be a fine purchase for Tottenham, who will be shifting away from a three-man defence in the upcoming campaign.
But their absence from the Champions League could be an issue if they go head-to-head with Newcastle.
The James Maddison Transfer Saga: Is Newcastle The Destination?
Newcastle attempted to land Maddison in the summer of 2022, but Leicester held firm and managed to keep hold of their most prized asset.
Their demotion to the second tier means they have little chance of repeating the trick 12 months on, however.
The Magpies are at the front of the queue to acquire the England international. Eddie Howe is looking to bolster his ranks at Newcastle with transfers to get ready for Premier League and Champions League commitments following their fourth-place finish last time out.
Maddison would add more invention and goals to Newcastle’s engine room.
For now, the Magpies appear to be focused on landing AC Milan midfielder Sandro Tonali, but they are the 6/4 second favourites to sign Maddison.
James Maddison Transfer Rumours: Is Arsenal His Next Destination?
Arsenal appear to have identified the centre of the park as the area of their squad most in need of strengthening.
With Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey both being linked with transfers, the Gunners could feasibly sign three midfielders before the window closes.
Declan Rice is their top target but the latest reports suggest Manchester City have entered the race, which could spell bad news for Mikel Arteta’s men.
Meanwhile Kai Havertz is on his way from Chelsea to play in the No.8 role that Maddison often plays in.
Havertz’s imminent switch from west London is one of the reasons why Arsenal are a distant 16/1 with Parimatch in this market.
James Maddison's Future: Could Chelsea Or Man Utd Be The Answer?
Manchester United are in limbo, as the sale of the club is moving at a snail’s pace as the Glazer family consider their options, much to the frustration of the supporters.
Nothing seems imminent so the saga could drag on for a while longer yet. That is not helpful to Erik ten Hag and his staff, who would have hoped to get some new faces in as quickly as possible this summer.
United signed two midfielders in Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in 2022, but there is widespread recognition that the required evolution in that part of the pitch is unfinished.
United are not currently in the market for Maddison, who is 25/1 with Bet365 to end up at Old Trafford.
Chelsea, available at 25/1, also look set to give this a swerve, but things can change quickly when it comes to the Blues' transfer odds.
A Closer Look At The James Maddison Next Club Odds: Which Teams Are In The Running?
Aston Villa are an ambitious club who want to be European regulars, but they will struggle to beat the likes of Newcastle and Tottenham to the signature of Maddison. A price of 33/1 with William Hill shows they are rank outsiders.
Liverpool and Manchester City (both 33/1) are level with them in this market. The Reds have already signed Alexis Mac Allister to bolster their midfield, but they have shown no interest in Leicester’s star man up to now.
The same is true of City, but the exit of Ilkay Gundogan could force them to sign a new attacking midfielder.
However, the aforementioned Rice is their main target and Maddison is not thought to be on their radar right now.
