The Open Betting Tips 2024: The Panel Pick Out 4 Specials From Royal Troon

Open Championship Specials:

Royal Troon hosts this week’s 152nd Open Championship and golf betting sites have plenty of markets on the final major of the year.

The Panel delivered a 45/1 winner with Robert MacIntyre capturing the Scottish Open in dramatic fashion at the weekend, so hopefully there will be more success over the next few days.

You can read The Panel’s outright Open tips and each-way selections for the trip to Ayrshire’s west coast by clicking on the links, but here attention turns to some of the specials offered by UK bookmakers.

French Fancy For Top 20

Romain Langasque has never broken into the top 20 at a major in seven attempts, but that could all change this week following an impressive performance at the Scottish Open.

The 29-year-old Frenchman shot a final-round six-under-par 64 to claim outright third at the Renaissance Club, like Troon a coastal links course.

Langasque has been in excellent form over the last four months, posting four top-10s on the DP World Tour, including ninth place at the BMW International Open in the week before his appearance in North Berwick.

After making 18 birdies and three eagles over the four days, Langasque revealed the reason behind a successful fortnight.

He said: “Last week already was a good week. I finished ninth, but I felt my game was good. So it was a lot of good feelings coming into this week, and this week is feeling a bit like a major for us on the DP World Tour.

“I was coming in pretty strong and pretty confident. And my putting was a bit sharp the first two rounds, and it was very strong on the weekend. That makes the difference.”

Henrik Stenson was second for putts per greens in regulation when he won his incredible Open duel with Phil Mickelson at Royal Troon in 2016, so that's a skill that could be required this weekend.

For those of you with free bets in your account, Langasque looks a livewire for top-20 finish at 15/2 with betting apps.

Fast Start For Sharma

Shubhankar Sharma also enjoyed a decent week in Scotland and will head to the west coast brimming with confidence after closing with a 65 for a top-40 finish.

The Indian competed in his first major in four years at last year’s Open at Hoylake where he exceeded expectations by finishing eighth, having been inside the top 10 at the end of every round.

Sharma’s opening 68 gave him a share of seventh place 12 months ago and more recently, he has been inside the top 20 at the end of the first day in three of his last seven tournaments.

Although he stood 77th after day one last Thursday, Sharma still shot a sub-par 69 and with a beneficial morning tee-time at Troon, he stands out at 200/1 with BetMGM, who are offering seven places.

Smith Well Priced In LIV Market

The Panel have already sided with Tyrrell Hatton as one of four each-way selections this week but that will not stop us from favouring 2022 Open champion Cameron Smith at 9/1 with SpreadEx.

New betting sites have priced newly-crowned US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Hatton and Brooks Koepka at shorter odds than Smith, who has finished inside the top 10 in his last two LIV Golf tournaments.

The Australian closed with a three-under 68 at the notoriously difficult Valderamma to finish sixth at the LIV Andalucia last week, so he heads to Scotland in good form.

Since winning at St Andrews two years ago, Smith has posted top-10 finishes in all three of the American majors and has never been outside the top 35 in his last four Open appearances.

That bodes well for Smith, who said this week that he would be a little disappointed if he didn’t get another “one, two or even three (more majors)” in his career.

Im Can Top Asian Field

Tom Kim (18/5) and Hideki Matsuyama (4/1) are the two favourites to finish as top Asian this week with betting sites, but the merits of Im Sungjae simply cannot be ignored.

The South Korean has been in spectacular form worldwide in the last few months during which he has posted five top 10s in his last eight outings, including fourth place at the Scottish Open.

True, Im missed the cut in all three majors on American soil this year, but The Open is a completely different type of golf.

Although Im has failed to make the weekend in 11 of his 20 major appearances, he produced his best ever Open performance 12 months ago (T20) and his visit to the Renaissance Club will have boosted his confidence further that he can play well on links courses.
