Tour Championship Betting Tips: Four East Lake Picks From The Panel

The climax of the PGA Tour season takes place at East Lake this week as the top 30 players in the FedExCup standings compete for the lucrative Tour Championship.

Scottie Scheffler is the 9/2 favourite with betting sites to win the 72-hole strokeplay and with a 10-shot lead over much of the field is 11/10 to be crowned champion.

Sam Burns gave us a decent each-way return at 33/1 with his runner-up finish at Castle Pines, which hosted the second leg of the Playoffs, and he features again as one of The Panel’s four Tour Championship predictions.

Tour Championship Betting Tips: Red-Hot Burns Can Shine At East Lake

Burns has finished fifth and second in both Playoffs in the last couple of weeks and was fourth here 12 months ago without the starting strokes, so he looks worth another whirl at 25/1 with Unibet.

Tour Championship Predictions:

Tour Championship Tips: Clark Worth Another Shot

Wyndham Clark was The Panel’s headline tip for the BMW Championship and looked well placed in fifth spot heading into the final day.

However, a closing 74 meant the 2023 US Open champion had to be satisfied with a share of 13th in a 50-man field, but there was enough encouragement over the four days to suggest he could go well in Atlanta this week.

Clark was advised at 33/1 and although his odds have shortened to 25/1 with 20 fewer players in the field, he deserves to be considered as a contender on this par-71 track measuring 7,490 yards which demands accuracy off the tee, even more so now that the course has been lengthened since last year.

The American was in excellent nick heading to Castle Pines, having finished inside the top 10 in three of his last five tournaments, including seventh place at the first of the three Playoffs, the FedEx St Jude Championship.

As The Panel mentioned in last week’s preview, Clark was strong in nearly all areas in Tennessee when looking at the strokes gained metrics for putting, approach and tee-to-green.

Twelve months ago, only Viktor Hovland and Xander Schauffele shot lower scores than debutant Clark over the four rounds, and while the Open champion has been in scintillating form, odds of 5/1 with betting apps look about right.

Clark admitted it was tough playing at altitude last week, but he should be able to judge distances better at this course and The Panel are sticking with him to put on a show.

Tour Championship Odds: Take Thomas To Hit The Heights

Justin Thomas squeezed into the final 30 by the skin of his teeth as he returns to a course where he has played extremely consistently over the last few years.

Although Thomas failed to qualify for last year’s Playoffs by the narrowest of margins, he snuck into this season’s finale thanks to a closing 68 at Castle Pines, having opened with a 76 on Thursday.

Thomas loves playing at East Lake where he has finished inside the top 10 in his last seven visits in the 72-hole format, while his last three appearances read 3-4-4.

The likeable American was the best of all 50 players in terms of strokes gained tee-to-green in Colorado, scoring more than five shots over the rest of the field.

He was also excellent in all other areas apart from the one that mattered most – putting. Had Thomas found his touch on the greens he would have been looking at a much better finish than 39th.

Thomas didn’t wait around to find out whether he had qualified for the climax to the season, but now that his destiny is confirmed, he is likely to concentrate on the key area which could see him contend.

At 33/1 with new betting sites, Thomas certainly smacks of value and his course form suggests he will take advantage of Brian Harman’s double-bogey on the last which propelled the two-times USPGA champion into the top 30.

Tour Championship Betting Tips: Course Specialist Straka Can Thrive

Only Aaron Rai and Ben Kohles have been more accurate off the tee than Sepp Straka this season and the Austrian heads to Georgia buoyed by finishing inside the top 15 at Castle Pines.

Straka’s results have been patchy lately and he has had very little to write home about since posting back-to-back fifth places at the Charles Schwab Challenge and The Memorial in May and early June.

That said, Straka has finished in sixth spot in both previous appearances at East Lake, so this is a place which holds fond memories for the two-time PGA Tour winner.

Victory would appear to be beyond Straka, whose numbers last week were negative for strokes gained off the tee which is usually one of the strengths of his game.

Instead of picking Straka in the outright market, The Panel are drawn towards the 5/1 on offer with SpreadEx for a top-10 finish for the third consecutive season.
