Adam Caplan's Must Plays in Week 6 of NFL Daily Fantasy
As we enter the weekend's games for Week 6 of daily fantasy football betting, I've concentrated on recommending players from teams that have produced consistently solid numbers this season. I'm generally passing on those players who are up and down and from teams where there are remaining questions from week-to-week.
And with that, good luck in Week 6!
Week 6 Quarterback Best Bet
Matt Ryan = $8,300 at FanDuel
Matchup: Atlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Last week against the Steelers, Ryan's performance was surprisingly a little underwhelming after a good start to the game. However, he'll get another good matchup in front of him, so fantasy owners shouldn't shy away from the 11-year NFL signal caller.
Ryan will face a Buccaneers defense that is giving up over three touchdown passes and 370 yards per game to opposing quarterbacks. Oh, did I mention that they are giving up a whopping 9.4 yards per pass to quarterbacks?
All of those numbers are either tied for or are league-highs in terms of production given up to the quarterback position so far this season.
In addition to the numbers listed above, the Buccaneers are very banged up on the back-end of their defense, so Ryan should bounce back in a big way this week.
Week 6 Running Back Best Bet
Chris Carson = $6,400 at FanDuel
Matchup: Seattle Seahawks vs. Oakland Raiders
It has taken a while, but the second-year back has taken over as the team's main ball carrier.
Carson, who missed most of his rookie season with a broken ankle, fits in well with Seahawks offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer's power rushing scheme. He has posted 51 carries, 218 yards (4.27 yards per carry) and a TD over his last two games, and he'll face a struggling Raiderd run defense.
Over their last two games, the Raiders defense has given up over 5.2 yards per carry and four rushing TDs, while allowing over 16 yards per catch and one TD to opposing running backs in the passing game.
Week 6 Wide Receiver Best Bets
Mike Evans = $8,000 at FanDuel
Matchup: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons
As noted above, I wanted to concentrate more going forward with players from good offenses, and in the case with Evans, a solid passing offense.
Well, even though the Buccaneers will go back to Jameis Winston behind center, they are clearly loaded with some of the best passing options in the league and have been on fire with their passing game.
The Buccaneers, whose defense has struggled most of their first four games, are having to play from behind, and they've been unable to run the ball with any sustained success. And they'll face struggling Falcons secondary, which will be without both starting safeties for the rest of the season.
Their absences have really showed up of late. The Falcons defense is tied for a league-high of 10 TD passes given up to opposing wide receivers, and they're giving up a catch rate of 65.7% to that position.
So it's hard to imagine a scenario where the Falcons could slow down talented Evans this week.
Tyler Boyd = $6,300 at FanDuel
Matchup: Cincinnati Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
When we examine the surprises this season at the wide receiver position, you should look no further than the third-year pro. The Bengals opened up a starting job after they released veteran WR Brandon LaFell, and Boyd has taken advantage of his promotion.
Boyd, who faces a struggling Steelers secondary, is averaging 6.75 receptions and 91.75 yards over his last four games. The Steelers defense is giving up over 216 yards and nearly 16 yards per catch per game to opposing wide receivers through five games.
This should be a high-scoring game, so Boyd, who has developed excellent chemistry thus far with QB Andy Dalton, should be in store for another solid game.
Week 6 Tight End Best Bet
Cameron Brate = $4,500 at FanDuel
Matchup: Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Atlanta Falcons
I generally won't recommend a tight end whose season has not been solid to this point, but keep in mind that Brate has excellent chemistry Winston, who will be making his first start of the season this week.
Brate, who signed a big contract extension earlier this year, only has six receptions so far this season but has scored in his last two games. And keep in mind that Brate's lack of production is largely due to the emergence of second-year TE O.J. Howard.
However, Howard is nursing a sprained knee. So, if Howard can’t play this week, that should help increase Brate's role in the Buccaneers passing game. But make sure you check Howard’s status on Sunday before considering Brate for this week.
If Howard is back, other reasonably priced tight ends I like this week include Austin Hooper ($5,600 at FanDuel) and Trey Burton ($5,800 at FanDuel).
Week 6 Flex Best Bet
Tarik Cohen = $5,900 at FanDuel
Matchup: Chicago Bears at Miami Dolphins
Cohen is coming off of his first highly productive game this season and finished with 20 touches, 174 combined yards and 1 TD during the team's game two weeks ago against the visiting Buccaneers before the Bears’ bye week.
Cohen, who was selected in the fourth round of last year's NFL Draft, is a great fit for Bears head coach Matt Nagy's spread offense, and he's terrific in space with the football in his hands. This week, Cohen will face a Dolphins defense that struggles covering the running back position in the passing game.
The Dolphins defense is giving up about 7 receptions and 59 yards a game receiving to opposing running backs. Plus, they have given up three receiving touchdowns to running backs, which ties them for a league-high with three other teams.
