- New York Yankees -1.5 @ +136 With Draftkings
- St Louis Cardinals On The Moneyline @ +155 With BetMGM
- Minnesota Twins Under 3.5 Runs @ +110 With FanDuel
Baseball's trade deadline is a little more than a week away and before that, there is a full schedule of games on Tuesday, with no matinees. All games start at 6:40pm ET or later.
One of the standout match-ups is the Subway Series, as the Mets travel to the Bronx to face the Yankees, which will be one of the most popular games on betting sites.
Our team at The Panel has checked out the stats, guides, and key player news ahead of Tuesday night’s Major League Baseball schedule to pitch the following three betting predictions.
New York Mets vs New York Yankees (O/U 8.5, ML -160 Yankees)
The New York Yankees bounced back on Monday afternoon and took their frustrations out on the Tampa Bay Rays.
It was a 9-1 contest that felt like 16-1. Now, the Yankees' rivalry with the Mets continues. Can Luis Gil bounce back from one of his worst outings of the season the last time these two teams met?
Gil has looked more like the pitcher from the first couple of months in 2024 lately. His last two starts have seen him throw more first-pitch strikes.
He is not getting behind on hitters; more importantly, the control is there. Gil is not the same as he was during that June run, where he yielded a whopping 16 runs in three outings.
One concern is that the Yankees are only 27-21 at home. However, Jose Quintana may be accommodating for the Mets.
The starting pitcher is not likely to give up four home runs again like in his last start. He has allowed 17 home runs in 102+ innings, and that number is rising.
The Mets are the hotter team (three losses in the last 11 games), while the Yankees are 5-5 over the past 10 games. Muggy conditions on Tuesday night should help the baseball fly out of Yankee Stadium.
We are going for the 1.5-run spread on betting apps and go with the Yankees.
The Panel Pick 1: New York Yankees -1.5 Runs - Draftkings +136
St. Louis Cardinals vs Pittsburgh Pirates (O/U 8, ML -190, Pirates)
Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes has given his team considerable Wild Card hope. Skenes has not lost a game all year in 11 starts (6-0, 1.90 ERA).
The Pirates are going up against Lance Lynn, who is literally all or nothing at this stage of his MLB career.
He can give up five or more runs as easily as he can shut a team down, so increased volatility creates some concern.
So does the idea that Skenes’ last start was July 11 (All-Star break). He gave up three runs or more once and that was his first outing against the Chicago Cubs on May 11. If there is to be a little rust, the Cardinals could exploit this.
Our pick here is to take the Cardinals to score one for the underdog on Tuesday night.
The Panel Pick 2: St Louis Cardinals On The Moneyline - BetMGM +155
Philadelphia Phillies vs Minnesota Twins (O/U 7.5, ML -160, Phillies)
The Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins continue a three-game series on Tuesday in Minneapolis. Zack Wheeler takes the mound for the Phillies, while Simeon Woods Richardson starts for the Twins.
The Phillies will be angry after losing the opener, when they squandered a number of opportunities as Minnesota won 7-2.
For the Twins, Woods Richardson typically goes five or six innings at the most. Wheeler is expected to get the win.
Minnesota averages 4.86 runs a game but has not faced a pitcher like Wheeler in a while. Runs will be harder to come by, the Phillies have given up two of fewer ER in Wheeler's last four starts.
Expect Philadelphia to hold the Twins to three runs or fewer on baseball betting sites.
The Panel Pick 3: Minnesota Twins Under 3.5 Runs - FanDuel +110
