MLS Best Bets, Odds and Predictions for Wednesday's Games
After just six games over the weekend and a victorious Nations League final for the USMNT, MLS returns with a full set of fixtures on Wednesday for Week 19.
We’re past the halfway point in the regular season, and to help with your Major League Soccer betting, here are our picks for this week.
Charlotte (+345) at New York Red Bulls (-145)
Despite being a favorite to win this game, New York Red Bulls lost 3-0 at the Red Bull Arena to Orlando City last time out. Alongside this, Charlotte also conceded three goals to Seattle Sounders but tied 3-3.
It now means the Red Bulls have still scored just 11 goals in 2023 with Charlotte letting in the most goals this year (35).
With such topsy-turvy form, we think a tie is in order here.
A 0-0 or 1-1 tie is +300 with FanDuel Sportsbook.
Toronto (+330) at Cincinnati (-145)
The easiest game to call this Wednesday sees Cincinnati aiming to get its 13th win in MLS against Toronto.
Toronto has won just three MLS games in 2023 and as the leaders of the Supporters’ Shield, this should be an easy win for Cincinnati after losing just one game.
Cincinnati to win 2-0 is +800 with Caesars Sportsbook.
New York City (+350) at Atlanta United (-150)
After beating D.C. United 3-1 almost two weeks ago, Atlanta United has had a lengthy break from action. It now means it has scored 35 goals in 18 games and won seven matches.
New York City's tie with Columbus Crew last weekend now means it is on a 10-game winless run, and we think this will carry on here against the second-highest scorers in MLS.
Atlanta to win and over 2.5 goals is +144 with BetMGM Sportsbook.
Nashville (+155) at Montreal (+150)
Nashville registered its 10th win of the season and arguably its most important one by beating St. Louis City last weekend.
The headlines were stolen by last season's top scorer, Hany Mukhtar, who netted a hat-trick to move to first in the top scorer list with 13 goals.
Montreal has also let in 27 goals in 17 games and only Inter Miami has lost more games than Montreal's nine defeats.
Hany Mukhtar to score and Nashville to win is +286 with DraftKings Sportsbook.
Philadelphia Union (+180) at Orlando City (+130)
Orlando's six-game unbeaten run came to an end when it lost to New England Revolution on Sunday. It has, however, still managed to score 13 goals in the last seven games and is expected to get at least a goal once more.
Philadelphia Union also saw its nine-game unbeaten run come to an end last time out by losing at San Jose Earthquakes, and it has now lost the same amount of games (5) as Orlando.
It’s a tough one to call after recent losses, so we’re heading for a tie.
A tie is +230 with Caesars Sportsbook.
Dallas (+240) at Austin (+100)
An all-Texas derby sees Dallas look to win at Austin for the second time within six weeks.
Jesus Ferreira scored once more for Dallas that day in a 1-0 win in Austin, although it has won just twice in the seven matches since that victory.
Austin hasn't been much better, however, as it has lost to Sporting Kansas City 4-1 and 2-1 to Real Salt Lake in its past two games.
We expect Dallas to get something out of this game.
Dallas to win or tie is -140 with FanDuel Sportsbook.
Real Salt Lake (+290) at St. Louis City (-130)
Despite a loss at Nashville last time out, St. Louis is still top of the Western Conference on goals difference after scoring its 34th goal of the season in a 3-1 defeat to The Music.
This means in the 17 games St. Louis has played during its inaugural year in MLS, it has only failed to score in four of those matches.
Real Salt Lake has also let in 28 goals this year and no team in the Western Conference has conceded more.
Nicholas Gioacchini has also scored seven goals in MLS this year for St. Louis, so he should get another in a game involving two teams with a combined goal involvement record of 102 goals in just 35 games.
St. Louis to win, Nicholas Gioacchini to score and over 2.5 goals is +362 with Unibet Sportsbook.
San Jose Earthquakes (+260) at Houston Dynamo (-110)
After finishing last in the Western Conference in 2022, San Jose has now won seven games and sits in fourth after a five-game unbeaten run.
Houston Dynamo, however, has just defeated Los Angeles twice and scored five goals with zero let in against it, and it now means it has still lost just one game in Houston this year.
San Jose likely see its unbeaten run come to an end, but it won’t be an easy game for the Dynamo.
Houston to win and under 2.5 goals is +401 with BetMGM Sportsbook.
Vancouver Whitecaps (+180) at Colorado Rapids (+135)
Colorado Rapids has still won just two games this year and has let in 27 goals. At the same time, Vancouver Whitecaps has scored 27 of its own and lost only five of its 17 MLS games.
The Rapids have also failed to win its last five games in Colorado by losing four of those games before a recent 0-0 tie against San Jose.
Although it is the favorite, we can’t see how it wins in this form.
Vancouver to win or tie is -185 with DraftKings Sportsbook.
Sporting Kansas City (+220) at LA Galaxy (+100)
Kansas City's excellent run of form came to an end recently with a 2-1 defeat at home to LAFC. It has previously won three of its past five games and scored 11 goals in that time to move to within three points of the playoffs.
During this period, the woes for LA Galaxy have continued with just one win in its past five MLS games. It’s also now been 10 games without a shutout in MLS, so we expect Kansas to at least get a goal.
In LA, however, we think the Galaxy gets another win after a commendable tie at St. Louis.
LA Galaxy to win and both teams to score is +280 with Unibet Sportsbook.
Chicago Fire (+270) at Portland Timbers (-110)
Despite a 4-1 defeat at Kansas, Portland has managed to make four shutouts in the past six games.
Chicago has also won just three MLS games in 2023 and was even defeated 4-1 at home by Houston in the U.S. Open Cup quarter-final.
After also losing to Columbus Crew last weekend, we think Portland should get an easy win.
Portland to win, to make a shutout and under 2.5 goals is +347 with DraftKings Sportsbook.
Seattle Sounders (+300) at Los Angeles (-130)
Third takes on second in the Western Conference this Wednesday in what is set to be arguably the biggest game the division has seen in 2023 so far.
LAFC managed to bounce back from its worst spell of form in the past two years recently with a 2-1 win at Kansas. It had, however, previously failed to win its past six games, although it is still in pole position to make it into first in the Western Conference with two games in hand to play.
Seattle tied 3-3 with Charlotte last time out and has won only one of its past six games, so we give the edge to LAFC.
Los Angeles to win 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 is +390 with FanDuel Sportsbook.
