MLS picks: Betting Advice and Analysis for Week 17

Coming off a midweek schedule that saw several teams make some moves in the standings, we look ahead to Week 17 action.

We'll take the sports betting sites odds and analyze each game.

New England (+240) at New York City (-105)

New York City has crashed down into 14th in the Eastern Conference after suffering its seventh defeat of the season on Wednesday against Cincinnati. It was also the second 3-1 loss in a row at home for New York City after a defeat to the Philadelphia Union last weekend.

The New England Revolution tied 3-3 for the second game in a row after a tie with Atlanta United and Chicago Fire in the past week. This makes three games in a row in which New England has let in three goals after also losing to Philadelphia 3-0.

The form guide makes this one tough to call, but there should be goals.

New York or New England to win and over 2.5 goals is +102 with FanDuel Sportsbook.

Portland Timbers (+450) at Seattle Sounders (-195)

The Seattle Sounders still sit in first place in the Western Conference despite another home defeat against the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday.

The Portland Timbers also lost 4-1 to Sporting Kansas City last weekend and has failed to win its past three games, scoring just one goal during this time.

Seattle is an easy pick here.

Seattle to win 2-0 is +700 with BetMGM Sportsbook.

Charlotte (+390) at Columbus Crew (-170)

Charlotte and the Columbus Crew both have 21 points heading into this meeting in Ohio. Columbus is ahead on goals difference, however, after scoring 29 goals and letting in 22, just as Charlotte has scored only 20 and conceded 26.

We think there will be a few goals in this one with the Crew getting another win, as Cucho Hernandez searches for his 11th goal for them.

Columbus to win, over 2.5 goals and Cucho Hernandez to score anytime is +275 with Unibet Sportsbook.

D.C. United (+180) at Inter Miami (+125)

The MLS betting sites have this game as the toughest one to call this week, as Inter Miami sits in last place in the Eastern Conference.

Despite being last, Miami has won the same amount of games as D.C. United (5), although Miami has lost 10 times in MLS action this year. No team has suffered more defeats in 2023.

Miami is also yet to tie a game this season, so we think one of these will win with only a few goals scored.

Miami or D.C. to win and under 2.5 goals is +224 with FanDuel Sportsbook.

Orlando City (+330) at New York Red Bulls (-125)

The New York Red Bulls won at Miami on Wednesday for the team's fourth victory in the past seven games. In fact, after sitting in last place just five weeks ago, the Red Bulls have now lost just one game in 90 minutes during this seven-match run.

The Red Bulls now sit behind Orlando by just one point, although New York has scored the fewest goals this season (11).

Orlando has won just one of its past seven matches, and we think another low-scoring game is in order here.

A 0-0 or 1-1 tie is +300 with DraftKings Sportsbook.

Montreal (+500) at Philadelphia Union (-220)

Philadelphia is the lowest price of any team to win this weekend, and it comes after the Union registered its third win in a row and extended its unbeaten run to eight games in MLS play.

Last year’s Eastern Conference winner is finally beginning to look like its former self, and with Montreal conceding the same amount of goals as Philadelphia (24), there seems to be only one winner here.

Philadelphia to win 1-0, 2-0 or 3-0 is +190 with BetMGM Sportsbook.

Real Salt Lake (+230) at Austin (-105)

Austin has moved into the playoff spots after an impressive 2-1 win against Minnesota United and now sits behind the Loons in seventh on only goals difference.

Real Salt Lake also lost 3-2 at home to the LA Galaxy, who was in last place before that win.

After these results, we only see a win for Austin. Both teams have let in 20+ goals so far, so we expect a goal each here.

Both teams to score and Austin to win is +480 with Caesars Sportsbook

Nashville (+230) at Dallas (+110)

Fourth in Eastern Conference meets with second in the Western Conference as Nashville continues to have the best defensive record in the MLS this year with only 10 goals let in during 15 games.

Nashville has scored 22 times and won eight games, just as Dallas lost 2-1 to Kansas City on Wednesday. Nashville beat Columbus 3-1 at the same time, and Hany Mukhtar got another goal that day, too.

Mukhtar has now scored nine goals this season and has netted 33 goals in his past 50 Nashville games.

Nashville to win and Hany Mukhtar to score anytime is +441 with Unibet Sportsbook.

Toronto (+280) at Minnesota United (-115)

Toronto registered its seventh game of the season where it failed to score a single goal as it tied 0-0 with Chicago on Wednesday.

Minnesota should win this one, but it has only scored 14 goals of its own - only the Galaxy and the Red Bulls have scored fewer.

It’s likely to be a low-scoring win for the Loons.

Minnesota United to win 1-0 is +650 with BetMGM Sportsbook.

Houston Dynamo (+300) at St. Louis City (-130)

With just one win in the past five MLS games, the Houston Dynamo team has slid down in the standings and heads into this match after a 6-2 beating by the Vancouver Whitecaps.

This doesn't bode well for Houston against the highest-scoring team in the Western Conference, as St. Louis City has netted 29 goals and let in only 14 from just 13 games.

In fact, St. Louis City has scored seven goals in the past two games and actually beat Vancouver 3-1 last weekend.

St. Louis City to win 2-1, 3-1 or 4-1 is +380 with FanDuel Sportsbook.

San Jose Earthquakes (+240) at Colorado Rapids (+100)

San Jose put together its best win of the season by defeating first-place Seattle in the Western Conference on Wednesday, as another goal from Jeremy Ebobisse secured a 1-0 road win.

Colorado lost 3-2 to Columbus at the same time and now sits bottom of the Western Conference. In fact, only Salt Lake, Atlanta United and the LA Galaxy have let in more goals this year.

Despite being at home, we struggle to see how Colorado prevails after winning only two games in 2023.

San Jose to win 2-1 is +1100 with DraftKings Sportsbook.

Kansas City (+260) at Vancouver Whitecaps (-110)

What a turnaround from Kansas City in the past month. After previously failing to win a game in the first 10 matches, it has now won at Seattle and beat Minnesota, Portland and Dallas at home. During this run, Kansas City has even achieved a tie on the road against the MLS Cup favorites, Los Angeles FC.

Vancouver did smash Houston 6-2 in the week, however, so this is a tough one to call. Nevertheless, we expect goals.

Vancouver's Simon Becher was also rested during the week so he is fit for this game, and he has now scored seven goals in 14 games.

Vancouver to win or tie, Simon Becher to score anytime and over 2.5 goals is +280 with DraftKings Sportsbook.
